The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) supports wildfire management agencies across Canada by coordinating resource sharing, strengthening national collaboration, and advancing programs and standards that improve Canada’s collective wildfire response and resilience. FireSmart Canada, a program under CIFFC, empowers communities and individuals to take proactive steps to reduce wildfire risk through education, resources, and best practices for prevention and mitigation.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Operations and working closely with, and under the strategic guidance of, the Latin American Partnerships Lead, the Latin American Equipment and Training Coordinator (the Coordinator) is responsible for supporting the implementation of CIFFC’s Latin American Strategy. This role focuses on the coordination and procurement of wildfire management equipment for Latin American countries as well as the coordination and delivery of wildfire training in CIFFC partner countries across Latin America.
The Coordinator plays a key operational and relationship-management role, acting as a bridge between CIFFC, member agencies, Canadian embassies, and wildfire management counterparts in partner countries. The Coordinator must be able to work effectively across jurisdictions, cultures, languages, and must communicate fluently in English and Spanish.
A strong understanding of operational wildland fire management in Canada and familiarity with CIFFC’s national training system are important assets for this role. The position requires independent judgement, strong coordination skills, and the ability to manage complex, multi-partner initiatives. Experience in the use of wildland fire equipment and technology is paramount. International travel will be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Supports the implementation of CIFFC’s Latin American Strategy, with a focus on equipment and training initiatives.
- Coordinates the identification, procurement, preparation, and delivery of wildfire management equipment to partner countries in Latin America.
- Supports the design, coordination, and delivery of training associated with equipment deployment, in alignment with CIFFC training standards and partner country needs.
- Works closely with the Latin American Partnerships Lead to ensure operational activities align with partnership objectives, diplomatic considerations, and country specific contexts.
- Maintains strong working relationships with Provincial, Territorial, and Federal wildland fire management partners to support equipment sourcing, technical expertise, and training delivery.
- Coordinates with Canadian embassies and relevant federal departments to support international engagement, logistics, and diplomatic protocols.
- Engages directly with wildland fire management counterpart agencies in partner countries to plan, coordinate, and evaluate equipment and training initiatives.
- Supports planning and coordination of in country and virtual training sessions, workshops, and exchanges, including logistics, scheduling, and documentation.
- Tracks project timelines, deliverables, and reporting requirements for assigned initiatives.
- Prepares briefing materials, summaries, and reports for internal CIFFC governance bodies and external partners.
- Supports monitoring and evaluation activities related to equipment effectiveness and training outcomes.
- When requested, attends international meetings, conferences, and site visits to support CIFFC’s international wildfire cooperation objectives.
Qualifications
- Strong, fluent written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish is essential.
- Post secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field (e.g., emergency management, international relations, forestry, training, logistics), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated wildland fireline experience, including a strong working knowledge of wildland firefighting equipment and its proper operational application.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating multi stakeholder projects, preferably in an international or cross jurisdictional context.
- Knowledge of wildland fire management systems and practices in Canada is an asset.
- Familiarity with CIFFC’s national training system and resource sharing mandate is an asset.
- Experience with equipment procurement, logistics, or international delivery processes is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision while managing multiple priorities.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally.

Salary Range
The base salary range for this position is between $80,831 - $108,078 annually.
(The starting salary will be determined based on relevant experience, skills, and internal equity. New hires generally begin within the lower to first quarter of the range, with room to progress as they develop in the role.)
This represents base salary only and does not represent other compensation components of the total compensation (i.e. annual vacation allotments, pension contributions, etc.). The actual base salary will vary depending on relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
