The Role
You will conceptualize, lead, innovate, and ensure the delivery of high-impact, evidence-informed training and development programs that generate revenue while supporting the well-being of workplaces, corporate employees and leaders, and OT colleagues. This role champions best practices in adult education, supports recruitment and retention, drives continuous improvement in training and development services, and fosters strong relationships with customers, occupational therapists, and industry networks across Canada.
The Director of Professional Development is accountable for the identification, development, delivery, and continuous improvement of Gowan’s training and development services. This includes overseeing the end-to-end process of promotion, completing customer needs-analyses, program development, content customization, collaboration with and coaching facilitators (SMEs), and aligning training and development solutions with organizational strategy. The role ensures that training and development offerings meet the evolving needs of leaders, disability management professionals, employees, service colleagues, and other workplace partners.

You Bring
- A passion for the profession of occupational therapy.
- Previous experience or expertise in workplace accommodation, disability management, mental health, and ergonomics.
- Advanced knowledge of adult learning theory, training/education design, and facilitation best practices.
- Strong research skills and ability to translate complex information into practical training and development delivery.
- Engaging facilitator who can confidently and professionally compel audiences during virtual and in-person presentations.
- Strong written communication for training and development content, reports, and proposals.
- Leadership and mentorship skills to guide internal team members and external facilitators.
- Collaborative team player who brings energy, passion, positivity and a solution-focused mindset to the role.
- Innovative thinker with strong attention to detail, thoroughness, and project management abilities.
- Strategic approach to create win-wins for customers and the organization.
- Able to operationalize and organize training and development services for effectiveness and efficiencies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, presentation software, and eLearning platforms.
- Formal training/education in adult learning principles or instructional design is an asset.
You Have
- A Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Registration in Canada (in good standing) with a provincial OT regulatory body.
- Minimum 5 years experience in a clinical leadership, adult education, or training/education development role(s).
- Experience delivering training/education to professionals, occupational therapists, and those in in leadership, HR, disability management, or workplace mental health environments.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is a strong asset. Working Conditions
- Primarily remote with travel for in-person training and development or strategic meetings.
- Up to 8 hours/day working at a computer or facilitating training/education.
- Frequent communication with Gowan staff, subcontractors, corporate customers, and other partners/vendors.
- Occasional deadlines and competing priorities requiring time management flexibility.
