Description
The Learning & Development (L&D) Consultant is responsible for partnering with stakeholders to identify capability needs, designing impactful learning solutions, and delivering engaging training across the organisation. The role supports a wide range of audiences within the built environment sector, ensuring employees develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to perform effectively and safely.
The role
Stakeholder consultation & learning needs analysis
- Partner with business leaders, project teams, and functional specialists to understand performance and capability needs
- Conduct learning needs analyses to identify skill gaps and development priorities
- Provide expert advice on appropriate learning approaches and solutions
- Translate business requirements into structured development programmes, learning modules or alternative learning resources
- Provide expert guidance to leaders and managers on performance conversations, objective setting, development planning, and feedback. Not an exhaustive list.
- Work closely with the People Teams / HR Business Partners to ensure learning is fit for purpose within the divisional contexts
Learning design & development
- Design engaging learning solutions including workshops, experiential activity, digital learning, blended learning programmes and coaching/mentoring support where appropriate
- Develop learning materials such as facilitator guides, participant workbooks, e-learning content, and supporting resources
- Ensure solutions are aligned with organisational vision and values, compliance requirements, and industry best practice
- Adapt content for different audiences including technical specialists, operational teams, and professional staff
- Develop learning activity that is designed to take into account a variety of learning styles and neurodiversity of thinking
- Communicate learning opportunities through in-company comms channels creating a positive energy so that people want to engage
- Actively engage in personal development to ensure the content of any learning is based on relevant thinking and a broad perspective of human behaviours and performance development
- Integrate, where relevant, core, functional and management competencies into the design learning activity
- Implement management and leadership assessment tools into learning activity where necessary (e.g. 360 feedback)
Learning delivery
- Deliver / facilitate interactive face-to-face and virtual learning activity for a wide range of audiences across the Berkeley Group
- Use a variety of delivery techniques to create inclusive, engaging, and practical learning experiences
- Support learners in applying any learning to real workplace scenarios within their projects and offices
- Manage group dynamics and adapt delivery style to suit different learning needs and experience levels.
Behavioural change leadership
- Act as a champion for Berkeley Group values and leadership behaviours
- Work with senior stakeholders to embed behavioural change
- Support the business through transition periods, enabling teams to adapt
Programme management & coordination
- Build a healthy working relationship with the Berkeley Academy team who will coordinate any learning activity through the LMS
- Agree sessions structures, scheduling, logistics, and communication with delegates
- Manage relationships with external training providers where this is required
- Manage relationships with internal staff who are supporting any learning activity
- Ensure all learning records and documentation is up to date and reflects
Evaluation & continuous improvement
- Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of learning solutions using feedback, assessments, and behavioural change indicators
- Analyse performance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improved learning interventions and delivery methods
- Stay up to date with emerging learning practices, technologies, and industry developments that support evaluation of learning
Essential
Experience required
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and coaching capability
- Experience in management and leadership and organisational development
- Strong understanding of performance frameworks and modern performance development practices
- Experience of designing and facilitating human skills performance development content as well as management/leadership programmes and content
- Ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders
- Strong analytical skills and experience using data to inform decisions
Desirable but not essential
- Experience in a large, complex, or matrix organisations (FTSE 100 experience advantageous)
- Certification from management/leadership professional body and coaching certification
- Experience of digital learning platforms and learning technologies
- Experience in behavioural change and performance development activity
