Department
The firm's L&D Strategy forms part of the firm's overall People Strategy and is central to the firm's commitment to investing in its people. The L&D team works on a broad range of learning and development initiatives across the firm, looking after the professional development needs of our lawyers and Business Services teams.
The job will involve close contact with the firm’s partners, heads of the Business Services teams, other senior stakeholders, external providers and facilitators, as well as with the entire lawyer and Business Services community.
The Role
We are seeking to recruit an Assistant for the L&D team to work alongside the firm's Director of Knowledge and Learning, Head of People Development and the wider L&D team.
The main purpose of the role is to support with a variety of tasks, focussed mainly on helping the L&D team in coordinating our firmwide training programmes for our lawyers and Business Services teams at all seniority levels.
The job will involve contact with the firm’s partners, heads of the Business Services teams and other senior stakeholders and the candidate will be expected to build solid relationships within the firm, including with lawyers at all levels and across other business services teams with whom we collaborate in order to deliver our services effectively. The job will also involve contact with external training providers and facilitators, and it will be important for the candidate to build collaborative relationships with our external faculty.
Key Responsibilities
- Helping to schedule and organise all of the firm’s professional skills development programmes for lawyers, including:
- the Milestone Development Programme, our flagship series of professional skills programmes for lawyers at all levels
- the Trainee Skills Programme and the Trainee Induction Programme for each new trainee cohort (currently March and September)
- individual skills modules for different cohorts
- Helping to schedule and coordinate the skills training programmes for our Business Services teams.
- Helping to manage training event bookings with external L&D facilitators and venues and other suppliers, anticipating and dealing with event logistics.
- Maintaining up to date training groups, liaising with the HR team in monitoring leavers and joiners and allocating them to the right training groups.
- Helping to prepare and collate training materials.
- Managing communications with delegates on internal and external courses.
- Keeping attendance records and liaising with individual lawyers and Business Services team members, and the HR team as needed, in maintaining L&D records.
- Collecting and collating feedback from all training programmes within the remit of the L&D team.
- Advertising and promoting courses internally on the firm's Intranet (The Hub) and through other media as required from time to time.
- Ensuring that the L&D page on the The Hub is kept up to date, ensuring that course materials and other key documents are presented in a user-friendly way.
- Helping with document creation and management.
- Keeping an orderly and easily navigable system for digital filing of departmental documents and records within our document management system.
- Dealing with invoices and supporting in the annual budgeting exercise.
The Learning Assistant will report ultimately to the Director of Knowledge and Learning, but on a day-to-day level, will report to the Head of People Management.
This role will occasionally require some flexible working outside of our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm to accommodate training programme commitments in the L&D team, including potentially some overnight stays on residential courses.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Experience and Knowledge
- 18 months+ working in a professional services environment with prior diary management experience.
- Degree-educated (desirable), but not essential.
Skills
- Confident and appropriate communication skills when working and corresponding with individuals across the firm, at all levels of seniority.
- Excellent attention to detail, use of grammar, spelling and punctuation in all written communication.
- Excellent organisational and multi-tasking skills, able to work independently and as a team player on a broad range of projects.
- Resilient under pressure when working to tight deadlines.
- Sound judgement and common-sense approach.
- Confident and capable of acting as an ambassador for the team.
- Solid technical skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft packages (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Some Sharepoint knowledge would be an advantage.
- Proactive in, and open to, the development and use of new technology to improve our L&D offering.

We are excited to be moving from our London headquarters in Snow Hill, to a brand-new building in the City – Stonecutter Court. The move is expected to take place in early 2026.
