The Role
The Head of Learning, Performance and Talent is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing programs that enhance the skills and capabilities of employees. The role holder will also lead on the design of talent and performance initiatives to ensure continuous learning, performance development, and employee engagement that enhances our growth, aids employee retention and is aligned to regulatory and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
Talent Management
- With the CPO, develop and deliver a practical, scalable Talent Strategy suited to a mid-tier environment.
- Lead structured talent reviews, succession planning, and pipeline development.
- Identify current and emerging skills gaps across service lines.
- Oversee early careers programmes including graduates and apprentices.
- Ensure fair and inclusive talent processes across offices.
- Maintain the organisational behavioural framework and keep ‘live’. Embed in ways of working, performance, assessment and development frameworks
Learning & Development
- Create a firmwide learning curriculum covering technical training and soft-skills
- Manage relationships with training partners and professional bodies
- Build a blended learning offer including virtual, classroom, and coaching
- Drive leadership development for managers, directors, and future partners
- Introduce evaluation methods to measure learning effectiveness
- Oversee LMS use and learning technologies
Performance Management
- Refine and embed a simple, transparent performance management framework that is forward (rather than backward) focused
- Lead objective-setting and review cycles and associated supporting guidance
- Equip managers to deliver effective feedback and development conversations
- Use performance data to inform reward and promotion decisions
- Ensure consistency across service lines and offices
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a credible adviser to Partners and senior leaders
- Lead and develop a small, high-performing talent and L&D team
- Collaborate with HR and Recruitment teams for integrated people strategies
- Provide reporting and insight to the Management Board
- Manage budgets for talent, learning, and performance programmes
Essential
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience:
- Extensive experience in Talent, Learning, or Organisational Development (OD) within professional services
- Knowledge of qualifications like ICAEW, ACCA, CTA, and AAT
- Ability to design scalable talent solutions for multi-site organisations and implement performance management frameworks
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, along with experience managing small teams
- Proficient in instructional design, creating career paths, and conducting needs analysis
- Familiar with AI-driven learning solutions and skilled in consulting with senior leadership on talent development
- Excellent facilitation skills for delivering learning interventions
Desirable
- Coaching qualification or leadership development experience
- Qualified in development and assessment tools
- Experience implementing LMS or talent systems
- Background in a mid-tier or regional accountancy practice

- Our standard working week is a 37.5-hour week on a hybrid basis (with up to 50% of your time across the month home based and the other 50% office based)
- Core working hours are 10am - 4pm Monday to Friday
