Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The Learning and Development (L&D) Specialist is a key strategic and functional expert responsible for elevating the capability of the L&D team and the business. This role serves as a trusted advisor to the Manager, driving organizational development through expert consultation, advanced instructional design, and exceptional facilitation. The Specialist will ensure L&D initiatives are strategically aligned with organizational priorities and act as the principal facilitator and design mentor for the team.
The position is a 12-month contract
Position Responsibilities May Include, But Not Limited To
- Serve as a strategic partner to the Manager, assisting with organizational wide L&D strategy, annual planning, and priority setting based on organizational goals
- Lead the end-to-end design and development of complex, high-impact learning solutions, including blended learning, interactive workshops, leadership programs, and strategic internal consultation models
- Utilize instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, Successive Approximation Model) and adult learning principles to create comprehensive materials, facilitator guides, participant workbooks, and job aids
- Review and provide expert-level feedback on workshop content and materials developed by L&D Leads, ensuring quality, consistency, and alignment with modern learning practices
- Develop and implement robust evaluation strategies (Levels 3 & 4) to measure the impact of training on key business outcomes and organizational metrics
- Serve as the primary, expert facilitator for critical, high-visibility, or sensitive programs, consistently demonstrating best-in-class delivery skills in both virtual and in-person settings
- Act as a subject matter expert and mentor to the L&D Leads, assisting the Manager in coaching them on facilitation techniques, content delivery, and fundamental instructional design skills to build the team's capacity
- Effectively manage and facilitate sessions involving senior leadership and complex cross-functional groups
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization to promote the value of learning and development
- Stay abreast of emerging learning technologies, trends, and best practices to continuously improve the effectiveness of L&D programs
- Ensure the operations follow all Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR), Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and Good Warehouse Practices (GWP)/Good Drivers Practices (GDP) for transport rules and regulations
- Other projects or duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources with 4+ years of progressive experience in Learning & Development, with a strong emphasis on instructional design & facilitation
- Proven track record as an expert facilitator for diverse audiences, including senior leaders, with the ability to manage challenging group dynamics and adapt content dynamically
- Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies with demonstrated experienceof applying these models to organizational challenges
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills with the ability to translate business goals into measurable L&D strategies
- Proficient in modern e-learning development tools, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and virtual facilitation platforms
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- This role requires around 25% travel annually, with up to 50% travel during program launches.
