As the administrative arm of the State Board of Education , CDE is responsible for implementing state and federal education laws, disbursing state and federal funds, holding schools and districts accountable for performance, licensing all educators, and providing public transparency of performance and financial data.

A wide salary range is posted for this position, and any job offer is based upon a salary analysis to comply with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The salary analysis considers relevant experience, education, certifications, and state seniority relative to others performing substantially similar work. While most salary offers are made within the posted range, occasionally an offer is made below or above the posted range based upon this salary analysis.

Description Of Job
Work Environment:
This position is full-time, fully funded by federal funds (contingent upon available funding), and is eligible for a hybrid work environment.
- Extended hours during the evening or the weekend may be required by business needs.
- Up to 20% of travel requiredwithin the state of Colorado for meetings/training and consultations, including some overnights.

The Colorado State Library is seeking a
Continuing Education Senior Consultant to spearhead our statewide training and professional development programs. This role is our go-to subject-matter expert, responsible for consulting with local libraries, analyzing program data to drive continuous growth, and representing Colorado in nationwide forums. The Subject Matter Expert Will
- Provide guidance and consulting services to library staff.
- Analyze program data to drive continuous improvement.
- Represent the Colorado State Library in professional committees and national forums.
The Colorado State Library is seeking a collaborative communicator who thrives in an achievement-oriented environment and is dedicated to staying current with industry trends to champion our agency's goals.
The final salary is anticipated to fall within the posted salary range.
Strategic Leadership (60%)
- Coordinate statewide professional development to library staff including prioritizing continuing education, establishing competencies and standards, hiring subject specialists, providing library staff training both in-person and online.
- Develop, maintain, and expand online learning resources for library staff professional development in areas of current need and in response to library trends and innovations.
- Design and conduct assessment and evaluation for continuing education to public, school, and academic libraries.
- Partner with outside agencies on professional development opportunities for library staff.
- Evaluate existing and emerging technologies that could be used by State Library and other library staff to improve training and learning in libraries.
- Evaluate all data collected from continuing education professional development activities to drive continuous improvement.
- Provide consultation and training to State Library staff and others on best practices for user experience design, instructional design, and presentation tools including video and audio production, web synchronous and asynchronous training.
- Continuously expand expertise on library trends and issues through self-directed learning, formal education opportunities, and attending regional, state and national meetings and conferences as funding allows.
- Be an instructional leader by staying current with and applying principles and practices of adult learning and guiding others in the State Library (and Colorado Department of Education) and library community on research-based instructional design.
Resource Management (20%)
- Manage and distribute all State Library continuing education resources as well as all relevant partner organization materials.
- Oversee, evaluate, and refine continuing education services web content and ensure all accessibility standards are met for all digital assets.
- Create curated digital and physical learning materials for use by library professionals.
Teamwork (20%)
- Participate as an active library development team member to establish and accomplish unit goals, priorities, and objectives.
- Share with State Library colleagues new learning gained from formal and informal professional development opportunities to identify areas of crossover for potential collaboration.
- Seek opportunities to partner and collaborate with colleagues in other Colorado Department of Education units, as well as other state library agencies.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions Of Employment & Appeal Rights
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires six (6) years of experience only, OR A combination of education and experience totaling six (6) years.
- A Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an accredited college or university.
OR
- At least 6 (six) years of relevant professional library experience.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CONDITIONS :
Qualifications For Success In The Position
- At least four years of demonstrated experience in training, adult education, or project management.
- Professional experience in designing and facilitating training for adult learners.
- Professional experience in presenting at conferences/workshops. Formal or informal mentoring experience.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and virtual, instructor-led training tools.
- Awareness of issues and trends related to library service including but not limited to customer services trends and branch leadership.
- Comprehensive understanding of adult learning strategies.
- Proficiency in growth mindset, assets-based coaching, design thinking, and community systems building.
- Requirements for creating accessible training and documents.
SKILLS:
- Designing and facilitating in-person, virtual, and blended training, presentations, and other adult learning opportunities.
- Project planning, management, and evaluation to include demonstrated success with grant projects.
- Mastery of MS Office; to include Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Mastery of Google Suite; to include Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms.
- Mastery of a variety of video call, webinar, and virtual conferencing platforms.
- Analyzing data and using results to inform project planning.
ABILITIES:
- Work both independently and collaboratively in a remote/hybrid environment.
- Provide impactful, encouraging, and timely training and consultation services to library staff based on their unique needs.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and partners.
