Mount Royal University’s Faculty of Continuing Education has provided high quality education to the Calgary community and beyond for more than 75 years. Serving more than 30,000 students per year, we offer a suite of Ministry of Advanced Education approved programs (occupational programs in massage, personal fitness trainer, and funeral education; academic upgrading; and our Transitional Vocational Programming), over 60 programs and 350+ courses to support professional and personal development in a wide range of topics, and a broad range of music and speech arts programming through our Conservatory. Our courses cover a diversity of topics, including but not limited to business, technology and health. These courses are offered in a variety of formats on campus, online, in the workplace, and in the community.
About The Role
The Curriculum & Educational Resources Specialist supports the design, development, review, and continuous improvement of continuing education programming. Working collaboratively with the faculty curriculum development team, program coordinators and subject matter experts, this role contributes to high-quality curriculum and learning materials that align with institutional standards, and best practices in teaching and learning.
This position combines curriculum development, instructional design, technical editing and writing expertise, and plays a key role in the development of courses for the Faculty of Continuing Education.
This is a full-time limited term position working 35 hours per week and ending March 31, 2027.
Responsibilities
Curriculum Development & Course Design
- Review course maps to ensure alignment between program outcomes, course learning outcomes, and assessments. Make recommendations as needed
- Review and provide initial feedback on course content, identifying areas for improvement and alignment
- Support regular course and program review processes, including documenting revisions and incorporating feedback from stakeholders
- Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts to ensure curriculum is current, relevant, and aligned with industry or academic requirements
- Apply instructional design principles to develop engaging, learner-centered course materials (in-person, online, and hybrid formats) for course or program reviews
- Provide guidance on course structure, assessment design, and learning activities
Educational Resources Support
- Ensure course design reflects best practices in accessibility, inclusivity, and universal design for learning (UDL)
- Provide guidance on copyright compliance and permissions related to course materials
- Identify, evaluate, and recommend open access and open educational resources to support curriculum development
- Support faculty in adapting and integrating OER into courses while ensuring proper attribution and licensing
Editing & Technical Writing
- Write, edit, and proofread curriculum documents, learning materials, and supporting resources for clarity, consistency, and accuracy
- Translate complex subject matter into clear, concise, and learner-friendly content
- Maintain documentation standards, templates, and style guides
Collaboration & Project Support
- Work cross-functionally with program coordinators, subject matter experts, curriculum development team and other internal and external stakeholders as required
- Support project timelines, milestones, and deliverables related to curriculum initiatives
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the enhancement of curriculum development processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 3 - 5 years of experience, preferably working in a post-secondary or adult learning environment
- Strong understanding of curriculum development principles and instructional design methodologies
- Excellent writing, editing, and technical communication skills
- Familiarity with course mapping, learning outcomes, and assessment alignment
- Knowledge of copyright legislation and open licensing (e.g., Creative Commons)
- Experience with learning management systems (LMS) and digital learning tools
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Salary: $59,386.60 - $75,147.80 per annum
