OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to consult on the development of a new "Culturally Inclusive Pharmacy" course for our Alberta Pharmacy Technician program. This is a specialized project role focused on ensuring curriculum accuracy and integrating culturally responsive care principles, with a specific emphasis on Indigenous Peoples and health equity within the Alberta pharmacy landscape.

The SME will work collaboratively with the project team to develop a robust, evidence-based course that prepares students to provide respectful, effective care to marginalized populations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Curriculum Development: Provide expert guidance on the creation of course content, ensuring it reflects historical contexts, social determinants of health, and reconciliation efforts relevant to pharmacy practice.
Subject Matter Alignment: Ensure learning objectives and materials align with the pharmacy technician’s role in reducing health disparities and implementing culturally appropriate communication strategies.
Resource Identification: Recommend and validate authentic resources, case studies, and materials that highlight Indigenous health perspectives and health equity.
Team Collaboration: Partner with instructional designers and the project team to translate complex cultural concepts into engaging digital and on-campus learning activities.
Quality Assurance: Review drafted curriculum for accuracy, sensitivity, and professional relevance to the standards of practice in Alberta.
Professional Integrity: Act in a manner that upholds the professional expectations and standards of Robertson College and the pharmacy profession.

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional Credentials: Licensed Pharmacy Technician practicing in Alberta or Licensed Pharmacist practicing in Alberta.
Domain Expertise: Demonstrated deep knowledge of culturally responsive care, Indigenous health outcomes, and the social determinants of health in Canada.
Multicultural Awareness: Proven commitment to multicultural sensitivity, health equity, and the principles of reconciliation.
Industry Experience: 2+ years of work experience in a pharmacy setting; experience working directly with marginalized or diverse populations is highly preferred.
Analytical & Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate systemic health inequities to a curriculum development team.
Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work effectively within a project team, meet deadlines, and process feedback constructively.
Educational Context: Familiarity with the pharmacy technician scope of practice in Alberta and a commitment to continuous professional development.
Software Proficiency: Able to use Microsoft Office and standard computer applications for collaborative document editing.
Adult Education Education or Experience: Experience instructing adults and/or delivering (individualized or group) workplace training an asset. A certificate in Adult Education is an asset.

Location: Remote (Must be working as a Pharmacy Technician or a Pharmacist in Alberta, Canada)

Hours: 30 Hours

Contract Start Date: ASAP

Contract End Date: June 30, 2026

Project Rate: Negotiable
