Skills for Life (SFL) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth and young adults through mentorship, skill-building, and career development. In partnership with FBC, we offer three impactful programs:
- New Age Mentorship Program: Connects youth with mentors in entrepreneurship, creative industries, and emerging career paths.
- Youth Employment Skills Program (YES): Provides young adults with training and mentorship to prepare for meaningful careers.
- Supports for Student Learning Program (SSLP): Assists high school students with academic tutoring, confidence-building, and post-secondary planning.
Position Overview:
We are seeking dedicated professionals to volunteer as mentors across our programs. As a mentor, you will guide youth and young adults in setting and achieving personal, academic, and professional goals, providing support and sharing your expertise to inspire growth and development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to mentees, helping them navigate their personal, academic, and professional journeys.
- Goal Setting: Assist mentees in developing and working towards S.M.A.R.T. goals using our goal-setting tools.
- Workshops & Activities: Participate in weekly workshops and activities that promote skill-building, confidence, and social cohesion.
- Communication: Maintain regular communication with mentees and program coordinators to track progress and address any challenges.
Qualifications:
- Professional experience in any industry (e.g., law, medicine, finance, marketing, tech, web/graphic design, real estate, fashion, engineering, cybersecurity, government, NGOs, investors, trading).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to supporting youth development.
- Ability to complete a vulnerability and background check.
