Position Summary

The Development Associate plays a critical role in supporting NFTE’s fundraising program. This position will report to the Chief Advancement Officer. The Development Associate is responsible for supporting the annual fundraising program with priority on grant writing, reports, templates and administrative needs of the team. This position is an important member of NFTE’s Advancement Team and will work collaboratively with the Development, Volunteers, and Events teams, as well as across the organization to ensure strong internal communications related to donor activities and needs.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Writing: Under the direction of the lead grant writers, draft proposals/letters of intent, grant applications, reports, and budgets for HQ and all regions. Maintain the grants calendar using Actions in Raiser’s Edge CRM. Assemble necessary supporting materials and documents including outcome measurements, success stories, and program data from appropriate team members, etc. Maintain a library of grant support documents including resumes, bios, IRS forms, Board/staff diversity lists, budgets, etc.
Donor Support & Acknowledgments: Assist with the preparation and e/mailing of donor acknowledgments, gift receipts, and personalized thank you notes.
Database & Records Management: Maintain accurate donor records in Raiser’s Edge NXT, including meeting notes, actions, updating contact information, and tracking communications and touchpoints.
Prospect Research: Conduct research as directed on current and prospective individual, corporate, and foundation donors to support cultivation and solicitation strategies.
Annual Fund Support: Work with the Annual Fund Manager in planning and execution of direct mail, email, and digital fundraising campaigns, including Fuel A Future and other appeals.
Event Assistance: Assist with volunteer and donor events and regional board meetings, including logistics, materials preparation, and follow-up communications.
Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the development team, including scheduling, material prep, and tracking fundraising activity. Support the Chief Advancement Officer on other duties as assigned.
Cross-Team Collaboration: Coordinate with advancement, program, and communications staff to support a consistent and compelling donor experience.
Other: Stay informed about trends in annual giving, digital fundraising, and donor engagement to continually strengthen NFTE’s fundraising strategies.

Qualifications

This position in entry-level; relevant nonprofit internship volunteer experience a plus
Strong copywriting skills for donor communications
Data-driven mindset with the ability to prepare reports and analyze and interpret information and insights
Strong project management and organizational skills with keen attention to detail and ability to work under and meet deadlines
Must be a highly motivated self-starter with good judgement and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Passion for NFTE’s mission of advancing youth entrepreneurship and education equity
Experience or willingness to learn donor CRM (Raiser’s Edge), Microsoft Office, and other fundraising and marketing systems and tools
Knowledge of education, entrepreneurship, and workforce development a plus
Positive attitude with customer service orientation and willingness to “roll up shirtsleeves” as a fundraising generalist expected to get the work done
Must enjoy working in a fun, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
