Position Overview:
Graduate School USA is seeking experienced instructors to teach live virtual courses, along with optional on-site sessions in Leadership & Development, with a focus on Federal employees. Ideal candidates will have deep leadership expertise and a passion for public service and adult learning.
Key Areas of Instruction May Include:
- Leading Self & Leading Others (Emerging and New/Current Leader Levels): Change management fundamentals: leading change, managing individual reactions and resistance, driving adoption Graduate School USA
- Communication, Coaching & Influence: Leadership Communication: authentic connection, consensus-building across diversity and generations using emotional intelligence; Coaching Skills: one-on-one performance conversations, mentoring techniques, fostering employee growth; Influence over Authority: leading without formal power, persuasion, coalition-building, and cross‑functional collaboration
- Leading High-Performing Teams: Team formation and dynamics: jump‑starting teams, hybrid/virtual workforce management, high performance accountability; Conflict resolution and delegation: workplace conflict negotiation, delegating effectively, handling different personality types Graduate School USA
- Strategic Thinking & Organizational Alignment: Strategic planning and critical thinking: executive planning tools, problem solving, policy analysis, aligning mission and operations
- Competency-Based Leadership Development: Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs): instruction aligned with OPM ECQ standards across all certificate levels; Action Learning and experiential development: design or facilitation of real-world applied learning projects, learning cohort‑based leadership experiences
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver instruction to adult learners in both in-person and virtual formats (synchronous and asynchronous).
- Facilitate engaging and interactive presentations on specialized federal HR topics, ensuring alignment with curriculum learning objectives.
- Support instructional delivery with educational materials, including slides, handouts, and reference documents.
- Develop and update lesson plans, special assignments, and student projects as needed to enhance learning outcomes.
- Promote an inclusive and stimulating classroom environment, encouraging student participation and interaction.
- Respond promptly and professionally to student questions and inquiries, both during and outside of class sessions.
- Utilize a range of instructional strategies and media tools, including cooperative and experiential learning techniques, to accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Teach in accordance with predefined curriculum objectives set by the GSUSA curriculum department.
- Ensure all teaching activities are in full compliance with GSUSA policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Participate in ongoing professional development activities to maintain subject matter expertise and improve instructional skills.
- Collaborate with curriculum staff to identify and recommend course updates or revisions based on learner needs and content developments.
Qualifications and Requirements
Subject Matter Expertise & Instructional Skills:
- Demonstrated, in-depth expertise in the relevant subject area (e.g., Federal Human Resources Management, Financial Management, Audit, Grants, Security, etc.).
- Proven ability to effectively teach both basic and intermediate-level courses within the designated curriculum area.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to deliver content clearly and engagingly to adult learners.
- Experience in both in-person and virtual classroom environments, with a solid grasp of virtual instructional best practices.
- Demonstrated success in classroom management and using instructional techniques that drive learning outcomes.
Communication & Professional Attributes:

- Ability to motivate and engage learners, fostering a student-centered learning environment.

Technology Proficiency:
- Proficient in Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Adobe Connect, and other virtual learning platforms.
- Strong PC skills, including experience with Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
- Comfortable using Slack, smart devices (phones/tablets), and managing digital communication tools during class sessions.
System Requirements (for virtual instruction):
- Operating Systems: Windows 10 or MacOS 10.9 or later.
- Hardware: Large or dual monitors, HD webcam (built-in or external), microphone and speakers (built-in, USB, or Bluetooth).
- Reliable wired or wireless broadband internet connection.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher required.
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the relevant field.
- Prior experience in successful delivery of classroom-based and/or virtual instruction.
- Preferred certifications include:
- Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP)
- Certified Government Training Professional (CGTP)

Our defined compensation structure is market competitive and is built to reward performance. Our Instructor roles fall under two designations based on skills/experience. Those selected for an Instructor I designation can expect a reasonable estimate of the current range to be $40.00 to $60.00 per hour. We take a number of factors into account when determining individual starting pay, including but not limited to: job and level hired into, location, skill set; experience and training; peer compensation and other business and organizational needs. This range is subject to change.
Pay is just one component of our total rewards package. Our part-time instructors are eligible for paid sick leave, a robust learning management system and individual development planning.
