Position Summary
The Senior Learning and Development Specialist supports organization-wide learning and talent development initiatives by administering and optimizing the Learning Management System (LMS) and providing operational support for employee development programs and onboarding.
This position partners closely with Organizational Development, Human Resources, organizational leaders, and cross-functional teams to advance employee growth, leadership development, and upskilling efforts. The Senior Learning and Development Specialist plays a key role in maintaining effective learning systems and processes, delivering engaging learning experiences, and driving continuous improvement in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary administrator of the LMS, overseeing user access, learning assignments, curricula, certifications, and compliance tracking.
- Maintain and enhance LMS functionality through user support, troubleshooting, system optimization, and improvements to the user experience.
- Monitor training compliance and partner with organizational leaders to support the timely completion of required learning.
- Manage digital learning content and maintain LMS documentation, including procedures, workflows, job aids, and user guides.
- Support organization-wide learning and talent development initiatives that promote employee engagement, growth, and retention.
- Develop and maintain learning materials, program communications, presentations, and job aids.
- Develop and facilitate virtual and instructor-led learning programs.
- Serve as the primary Zoom and Microsoft Teams producer for virtual learning sessions, ensuring a seamless and engaging participant experience.
- Coordinate virtual and instructor-led training sessions, including scheduling, logistics, communications, materials, and participation tracking.
- Produce and analyze reports and dashboards related to learning activity, training compliance, and talent development metrics.
- Identify trends and opportunities to improve learning effectiveness, operational efficiency, and employee engagement.
- Support data-driven decision-making through the consistent tracking and analysis of key learning and development metrics.
- Partner with Human Resources, leadership, and cross-functional teams to support learning, talent, onboarding, and organizational development initiatives.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous learning, professional development, and improvement.
- Maintain the confidentiality of employee and organizational information.
- Support broader Human Resources and organizational initiatives as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Human Resource Development, Learning and Development, Organizational Leadership, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Adult Education, Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Workforce Development, Training and Development, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5–7 years of professional experience administering an LMS or supporting learning operations, talent development, employee development, onboarding, HR technology, workforce development, or related HR functions.
- Demonstrated experience administering an LMS that supports blended learning operations.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience using virtual training and collaboration tools.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement process improvements.
- Strong project coordination, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt within a fast-paced and evolving environment.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams and organizational levels.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 10–15%.
- Willingness to understand and appreciate the traditions and culture of the Sisters of Mercy and the Catholic Church.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with LMS, HCM, or talent management platforms such as OpenSesame, Cornerstone, Relias, Moodle, UKG, Dayforce, Workday, HealthStream, or similar systems.
- Experience supporting cross-functional change initiatives, process-improvement efforts, or HCM system implementations.
- Working knowledge of employee development, onboarding, employee engagement, and adult-learning principles.
- Experience producing reports and dashboards and analyzing learning, talent, or operational metrics.
- Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD), Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD), LMS platform, instructional design, or related workforce-development certification.
- Experience working within healthcare, nonprofit, faith-based, or mission-driven organizations.
- Familiarity with the mission, values, and culture of the Sisters of Mercy and the Catholic Church.
