General Summary
Senior Director, Global Commercial Learning & Development Strategy & Enablement is a senior strategic leader responsible for designing, leading, and scaling high-tech training and learning initiatives for commercial functions, worldwide to impact CLV and commercial talent development. This role bridges organizational strategy and tactical execution — ensuring L&D programs are effective, scalable, compliant, and aligned with enterprise objectives. The ideal candidate is a visionary modern learning architect who combines executive presence with hands-on instructional design and automation expertise, and who thrives in complex, fast-paced environments. They will provide mentorship across the commercial organization, ensuring internal and external training is delivered with excellence. This position also plays a key role in customer learning, internal training tools for skill development of commercial colleagues working in conjunction with Human Resources to utilize and maximize all internal programs, systems and resources. This position is member of the Commercial Management Team and may have a span of control of 1-2 FTE(s).
Essential Job Functions
Strategic Leadership
- Define and drive the commercial L&D strategy (automate for innovation and scalability), aligning learning initiatives with enterprise goals and performance gaps.
- Design and maintain a comprehensive training calendar (customer/internal commercial) with cross-functional alignment across Commercial Sales, Service & Consumables, Clinical, Service, GBU, Marketing, and Post-Sales teams.
- Run quarterly review sessions to present learning insights and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders which aligns to the overall company CLV direction.
- Lead change management initiatives, supporting adoption of critical global transitions and tool implementations through structured learning programs.
- Establish and report on KPIs and analytics to measure learning effectiveness and program impact.
Program Design & Instructional Excellence
- Implement standardized instructional design models (ADDIE/SAM) and adult learning principles for internal and external training initiatives.
- Ensure use of modern training tools, techniques, and modalities for effective learner retention rates and behavioral change.
- Oversee the commercial learning lifecycle — needs assessment, design, development, delivery, and evaluation — across blended modalities (in-person, virtual, e-learning).
- Conduct gap analyses and needs assessments to ensure learning objectives are targeted, relevant, and drive revenue.
- Lead the modernization of commercial staff onboarding and customer onboarding to support Customer Lifetime Value (CLV).
Digital Transformation & AI Leadership
- Serve as the subject matter expert on learning technologies, AI tools (e.g., Synthesia, Gong), and LMS platforms — continuously evaluating and optimizing the training tech stack.
- Utilize AI tools to create scalable, multilingual customer training modules and videos that reduce the need for additional support.
- Drive adoption of data analytics and blended learning approaches to enhance program reach, engagement, and effectiveness.
- Oversee a global Learning Management System (LMS) to track course completions and/or certifications.
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Manage and mentor staff for delivery of training
- Partner with commercial business leaders across functions to identify needs and provide guidance on training design and delivery.
- Coach other trainers, SMEs, and leaders on high-impact delivery, modernized learning objectives, and innovative formats.
- Lead the training strategy for Go-To-Market (GTM) and New Product Introductions (NPI).
- Manage external consultants, vendors, and facilitators to deliver high-quality, cost-effective programs.
Compliance & Global Scalability
- Ensure all learning programs meet regulatory compliance standards (e.g., FDA, MDR, ISO) with accurate record-keeping and audit readiness.
- Design programs that scale across regions, languages, and cultural nuances, supporting a global workforce.
- Manage the commercial global L&D budget to ensure strong ROI on all investments.
Knowledge/Educational Requirements
Experience
- B.S. in education, management, communications or related field.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in commercial learning & development, or relevant experience, including leading global teams.
- Proven track record leading enterprise-wide learning programs and organizational transformation initiatives.
- Experience partnering directly with executive teams in complex, matrixed environments.
- Background in change management, instructional design, and AI required.
- Industry experience in MedTech, medical devices, or similarly regulated environments, preferred.
