The Opportunity
Rocky View Schools invites applications for a
full-time (1.0 FTE) English as Additional Language Learning Specialist in the Learning Services team at the Education Centre in Airdrie commencing
August 27, 2026 to June 30, 2030.
This position will be under the direction of the Director of Learning Services.
The successful candidate must have access to reliable transportation as this position requires travel between RVS sites.
The ideal candidate will have recent classroom experience and will utilize instructional design practices including a strong understanding of literacy, numeracy and assessment practices to support EAL learners in grades K-12. They will be familiar with the RVS English as Additional Language Practice Guide and have experience working with EAL students. This individual will work with other Learning Specialists to support staff in creating accessible, engaging and authentic learning opportunities for students and will work closely with classroom teachers to develop their practices to best support EAL learners.
Responsibilities
- Working as part of a team to help support leaders and teachers in designing and implementing inclusive literacy, numeracy and assessment practices with EAL learners
- Supporting schools to align with RVS assessment philosophy and procedures as outlined in AP360
- Supporting schools with collecting, analyzing and using data to inform practice
- Supporting schools with implementing practices from the EAL Practice guide, including using benchmarks to inform instruction
- Working with schools and teachers to plan and incorporate elements of instructional design
- Planning and leading professional learning sessions for K-12 teachers as required, including working in schools through small group professional learning, working elbow to elbow with teachers, co-teaching, modelling, coaching and mentoring
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies
- Ability to work across kindergarten through Grade 12 learning environments
- Ability to proficiently use a variety of technology platforms including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven assessment practices aligned with AP 360
The successful candidate must:
- Have a minimum 5 years recent classroom experience
- Be comfortable working with staff and students from kindergarten to Grade 12 in inclusive education settings
- Be familiar with Rocky View Schools Practice Guides, Board Strategic Plan, and Divisional Education Plan
- Collaborate with other Learning Specialists to support staff in creating accessible, engaging and authentic learning opportunities for students
- Have experience leading a learning community influencing growth of practice
- Have an understanding of the policies and procedures that guide teaching and learning (Provincial and jurisdictional)
Pre-employment Requirements
- Applicants must possess or be eligible for an Alberta Teaching Certificate. To be eligible for an Alberta Teaching Certificate, you must have applied for initial certification with Alberta Education at
