Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Professional Services - Thanatology
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Thanatology to support the design, development of a certification program focused on grief, bereavement, and end-of-life care. The SME will play a critical role in ensuring curriculum quality, regulatory compliance, and alignment with accreditation standards for delivery in on-ground and hybrid formats.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop program curriculum, course outlines, and syllabi in Thanatology.
- Review and update existing program documentation to ensure academic rigor and industry relevance
- Align curriculum with recognized standards in grief couneling and end-of-life care.
- Integrate psychological, social, and cultural aspects of death and bereavement, lab components, and hybrid/online learning best practices
- Support preparation of accreditation documentation, self-study reports, and program outcomes assessment
- Collaborate with curriculum specialists, instructional designers, and academic leadership
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree (minimum) in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field
- Certification or specialization in Thanatology required
- Minimum 3-5 years of of professional experience in grief counseling, hospice, or related areas
- Prior experience in curriculum development, program review, or accreditation processes preferred
- Familiarity with hybrid and outcome-based education models
Preferred Skills:
- Certification from Association for Death Education and Counseling (e.g., FT – Fellow in Thanatology)
- Experience in interdisciplinary education or training programs
