Head of Learning & Development
We are seeking a commercially focused and execution-driven
Head of Learning & Development to build and scale capability across 100+ restaurants while supporting ongoing business expansion.
The Head of Learning & Development plays a critical role in shifting training from a compliance-based activity to a
performance-driven capability function, directly impacting restaurant execution, leadership pipeline strength, and consistent readiness for new store openings.
This role combines strategic planning with strong operational execution to ensure learning frameworks, delivery, and systems support business growth and improve performance across all levels of the organisation.
What You’ll Do
- Learning Strategy & Architecture
Develop and execute a group-wide Learning & Development strategy aligned to business growth.
Build structured learning pathways across all roles to support capability development and progression.
- Training Delivery & Execution
Oversee the delivery of onboarding, skills, and management development programmes.
Ensure consistent training quality and execution across all restaurants.
- Team Leadership & Capability Building
Lead trainers, content developers, and administration teams within the L&D function.
Build a coaching-led culture within training to strengthen capability and performance.
Oversee the development of standardised training modules.
Ensure all content is aligned to operational requirements and designed for scalability.
Partner with Performance & Talent to build and strengthen leadership pipelines.
Support succession planning and Individual Development Plans (IDPs).
- Operational Performance Support
Align training to key business metrics, including labour, audit results, and customer experience outcomes.
Manage training tracking and reporting systems.
Provide insights to Exco to support decision-making and performance improvement.
Ensure training supports business expansion and new store openings.
Build scalable training solutions to support ongoing growth.
What You’ll Bring
Qualifications, Experience & Leadership Profile
- Applicable tertiary qualification
- L&D / ETDP qualification (South Africa) (Alternatively: CIPD Level 5 or 7, or CPTD (ATD) with exposure to QCTO/SETA environments)
- 7–10+ years’ experience in Learning & Development
- Proven experience leading multi-site training teams
- Digital L&D capability
- Experience in QSR, retail, FMCG, or high-volume environments
- Proven track record in building scalable leadership pipelines

- Execution Discipline: Strong focus on practical delivery rather than theoretical L&D.
- Operational Focus: Ability to translate strategy into operational training solutions.
- Data-Driven: Uses data and insights to improve performance and capability outcomes.

- Supports 100+ restaurants with ongoing expansion
- Leads the full Training & Development function, including:
- Training Administration
- Content and Programme Design
- Management Trainers
- Skills Trainers and early talent pipelines
- Drives capability across entry-level, supervisory, and management levels
- Operates cross-functionally with Operations, Recruitment, and Performance & Talent
