Description
The Learning & Development Business Partner (L&D BP) plays a pivotal role in designing, delivering, and embedding a consistent, scalable approach to Learning & Development across Sumer. Working closely with Service Lines, Subject Matter Experts (SME’s), People and Culture Business Partners and People Leaders, this role ensures that all colleagues have access to high-quality learning that enables performance, capability growth, and career progression.
The L&D BP will act as the strategic interface between the business and the L&D function, shaping learning pathways, overseeing technical and behavioural development programmes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Partnership
- Act as the link between L&D and assigned service lines, understanding capability needs and shaping suitable learning solutions.
- Advise leaders and People and Culture Business Partners on learning strategy, skills development and talent pipelines.
Learning Pathways & Curriculum
- Design, maintain and update technical, core skills, early careers and leadership pathways aligned to the Career Framework.
- Work with SMEs and Compliance to map annual learning, CPD requirements and mandatory vs optional content.
Technical & Compliance Learning
- Coordinate technical training, refresher learning and CPD programmes, ensuring compliance with professional body standards.
- Support colleagues with CPD tracking, assignment and completion through the LMS (currently Skillscast).
Core Skills & Leadership Development
- Support delivery of the Group Core Curriculum and key leadership pathways (First-line Manager, Manager → Senior Manager, Partner-track).
- Embed values, inclusive behaviours and ways of working into all development activity.
L&D Operations & Governance
- Use the LMS to schedule, assign and track all learning activity; monitor completion rates and escalate where needed.
- Maintain quality, consistency and governance across all learning programmes and vendors.
Collaboration & Engagement
- Partner with Early Careers, Talent Acquisition, People and Culture BP’s and Service Lines to ensure aligned, seamless learning delivery.
- Support early careers development programmes and technical foundations for apprentices, graduates and trainees.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to enhance learning pathways, colleague experience and operational efficiency.
- Champion a culture of continuous, self-directed learning across Sumer.
- Coach and support the People & Culture Business Partner team to deliver strategic, value-adding support to Hub leadership teams.
- Analyse learning data and capability insights to identify skills gaps and inform workforce and future skills planning.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Essential
- Experience in accountancy, tax, audit, financial services, or another regulated professional services environment.
- Proven experience in Learning & Development, Talent or P&C Business Partnering within a multi-site or professional services environment.
- Strong working knowledge of instructional design, curriculum management and learning governance.
- Experience collaborating with SMEs and professional bodies on technical or compliance learning.
- Confidence managing multiple stakeholders, building trust, and influencing at all levels.
- Strong data mindset: comfortable using LMS data and learning insights to inform decisions.
- Familiarity with CPD requirements for ICAEW, ACCA, CIOT or similar bodies.
- Ability to work at pace within a transforming, growth-focused environment.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
Desirable
- Experience supporting leadership development, early careers pathways, or culture/values programmes.
- Knowledge of Skillscast or similar LMS platforms.
