Organization Overview
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) proudly stands as the largest expanded learning provider in San Mateo County, dedicated to empowering 6,700 TK-College students across 30 sites from East Palo Alto to Daly City. Position Overview
The Director of Learning & Development plays a critical role in advancing BGCP’s learning strategy for all staff, with a primary focus on elevating the skills and readiness of our 270+ part-time program employees. Reporting to the Vice President of Learning & Development, this leader helps execute BGCP’s full L&D vision—including manager development, leadership pipelines, organizational training systems, and learning infrastructure.
A core responsibility of this role is designing and delivering professional development that supports early-career part-time staff in meeting expectations for professionalism, communication, collaboration, reliability, and workplace readiness. The Director also contributes to broader organizational learning efforts by ensuring alignment, quality, and coherence across all L&D initiatives.
This role partners closely with Program teams, People Operations, and cross-functional leaders to strengthen BGCP’s learning culture and drive continuous improvement across the organization.
Role & Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & System Design
- Partner with the VP of L&D to implement BGCP’s multi-year learning strategy
- Develop a professional growth vision and logic model for part-time program staff within the broader L&D ecosystem
- Define core competencies for part-time roles aligned to BGCP’s organizational competencies and leadership framework
- Build a multi-year roadmap for key learning initiatives
Create scalable learning systems that reach staff across multiple sites, roles, and schedules
Learning Design & Delivery
- Design, implement, and facilitate accessible learning experiences that strengthen professionalism, workplace skills, and staff effectiveness
- Develop blended learning offerings, including workshops, micro-learning, job aids, online modules, and toolkits
- Support delivery of organization-wide trainings in partnership with the VP and L&D team
Build a professional learning community for part-time staff and create development pathways for emerging professionals
Collaboration & Partnership
- Collaborate with the People Team, Regional Directors, Site Leaders, and Central Support teams to ensure cohesive training systems and aligned messaging
- Work with program teams to ensure training is relevant and consistent with program expectations and workplace norms
- Equip leaders and staff with resources, frameworks, and tools to reinforce learnings
Serve as a cross-functional learning partner supporting organizational initiatives and strategic priorities
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
- Establish metrics for learning engagement, attendance, skill development, and positive workplace behaviors
- Analyze participation data, assessments, and staff feedback to inform decision-making
- Continuously refine learning offerings based on data, organizational needs, and lived staff experience
- Contribute to organizational reporting by maintaining accurate learning metrics and impact data

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience
- Minimum 5 years experience designing and facilitating training programs and initiatives
- Demonstrated skill in developing learning content that is accessible, engaging, and practical
- Strong facilitation, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to manage complex projects and meet timelines
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and build strong internal partnerships
- Background in instructional design, adult learning theory, or organizational development
- Experience building learning systems or multi-year professional development roadmaps
- Experience with blended learning models (micro-learning, e-learning, toolkits, job aids, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in leadership development or manager development
- Direct experience supporting early-career or part-time staff
- Experience in nonprofit, education, youth-development or a related sector
- Experience building out and rolling out a learning management system (LMS)
Physical Requirements And Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, crouching, squatting, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 20% walking & standing. Work environment noise level is usually moderate but can be noisy at times. All requirements are subject to reasonable accommodations.
LOCATION
Menlo Park, CA (with regular travel to program sites across San Mateo County)
WORK SCHEDULE
This is a full-time, hybrid position generally scheduled Monday-Friday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
- On-site days: Tuesdays and Thursdays at Central Support in Menlo Park
- Remote days: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with flexibility to travel to program sites as needed.
- Flexibility: Occasional evenings or weekends may be required based on organizational needs.
- Training Availability: This position does not include live training hours in the schedule above. However, for in-person training delivery (required for this L&D role), you must be available to support scheduled training sessions, aligned to the organizational training calendar.
Schedule and work location may be adjusted in the future based on the evolving needs of the organization.
Compensation & Benefits
- Employment Status: Full-Time Salary
- Annual Salary Range: $120,000-$145,000, depending on experience (DOE)

As part of the hiring process, BGCP requires candidates to complete LiveScan fingerprinting, a background check, and a tuberculosis (TB) evaluation or test.
