We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Reading Specialist to join our team. As a Reading Specialist, you will work with students to improve their reading skills and foster a love for reading. Your role will involve providing individualized instruction, assessing students' reading abilities, and collaborating with teachers and parents to support student progress.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to identify students' reading levels and areas for improvement
- Develop and implement individualized reading plans based on students' needs
- Provide direct instruction to students using evidence-based reading strategies
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction as necessary
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate reading strategies into the curriculum
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and provide recommendations for at-home support
- Utilize effective classroom management and behavior management techniques to create a positive learning environment
- Provide tutoring or small-group instruction to students who require additional support
- Stay up-to-date on current research and best practices in reading instruction
- Collaborate with other educators and administrators to develop school-wide literacy initiatives
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (Master's degree preferred)
- Valid teaching certification or licensure (OG or Wilson training preferred)
- Proven experience working with children in an educational setting
- Strong knowledge of childhood development and literacy acquisition
- Familiarity with education administration and assessment practices
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in proofreading and editing written materials
