The Ministry of Children and Family Services is responsible for service delivery of Child Intervention services (including Child Protection, Foster and Kinship Care, Adoptions, Post Adoption Registry, and support for sexually exploited and drug-endangered children) including supporting other Ministry divisions responsible for program delivery to other vulnerable children. The Ministry of Children and Family Services supports early intervention and prevention programs through Parent Link Centres and manage licensing for child care facilities, including day cares and day homes. One of the priorities of the Ministry of Children and Family Services is providing training to and supporting the practice of all staff at Campus Based Treatment Centres (CBTC).

Children and Family Services (CFS) operates four government operated Campus-Based Treatment Centres (CBTCs):

Yellowhead Youth CBTC (Edmonton)
Sifton CBTC (Lethbridge)
Lac La Biche CBTC (Lac La Biche)
High Prairie CBTC (High Prairie)

CBTCs provide 24/7 intensive and therapeutic treatment care for youth with complex emotional and behavioural needs. In addition to on-site clinical and assessment services, CBTCs provide housing, intensive recreation therapy, on-site education and academic support, as well as discharge and transition planning. CBTCs work with complex youth to provide a wholistic approach to wellness so that they gain the skills and supports they need to return home or to a community placement.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Provincial Manager, the Training Coordinator is responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of mandatory training to Campus Based Treatment Centre staff. The position continually reviews training material and course evaluation to ensure the training is current and relevant; and provides staff with the training, skills and knowledge necessary to make effective decisions regarding the care, programs and services provided to children, youth and families at risk. The decisions made by CBTC workers have a significant and long-term impact on children, youth and families involved in the child intervention system.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Designing, developing and revising the CBTC training modules to ensure all CBTC frontline workers receive the mandatory training required.
Delivering training to ensure consistent messaging and to adjust instruction to maximize and internalize the learning in order to be incorporated it into everyday decision making relative to trauma informed practice.
Proactively scanning and doing needs assessment to determine, develop and implement training material, initiatives, methodologies, assessments, tools, etc. to enhance the learning experience and the ability to assess and determine the need for and degree of intervention.
Developing, maintaining and enhancing relationships within the Ministry, and with external partners to ensure the delivery of mandatory training is current, relevant and delivered when required.

Qualifications

The candidate must possess a post secondary Degree in social services or related field (adult education/training, organizational development) with a minimum of a 2+ years of directly related experience

Online training delivery methodologies and tools

GoA learning, training and development initiatives and strategies

Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment (CAFAS)
