Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at Enterprise Square.
The Organizational Development team empowers employees to tackle new challenges head-on. Through workshops and on-demand learning, we cultivate the skills, mindsets, and accountability needed to drive personal growth and professional excellence.
Reporting to the Manager, Organizational Development, the E-Learning Specialist is responsible for building and managing e-learning environments, specifically focused on the professional development of Faculty and Staff. Working closely with the team’s Consultants and one other E-Learning Specialist, this position will support the design, development, and delivery of fully online and blended professional development programs.
Responsibilities
E-Learning Development and Implementation
- Performing e-learning course implementation tasks, including organizing the work-flow of implementation-related tasks for Faculty and Staff professional development.
- Recording and editing videos and developing multimedia content to enhance online learning modules.
- Working with the E-Learning Specialist and Consultants to propose online course architectures and build course assets.
- Tracking the e-learning course build process and communicating status updates to the Organizational Development team.
- Recommending best practice processes and procedures for blended, online, and virtual learning environments by drawing on knowledge of and experience with e-learning technologies.
- Serving as a Canvas expert for the team.
System Management & Modernization
- Managing and maintaining existing professional development online courses within the Canvas Learning Management System.
- Updating and maintaining the team & website to ensure professional development offerings, resources, and schedules are accurate and accessible.
- Exploring opportunities, emerging technologies, and pedagogical trends to continuously modernize and improve online learning experiences.
- Recommending process and work-flow strategies that address changes in technology.
- Liaising with other university departments (such as IST) on technical and e-learning support issues.
Quality Assurance
- Assisting with quality assurance through involvement in user evaluation and testing of online professional development courses.
- Completing environmental scans and/or reports on e-learning initiatives, trends, and developments, both internal and external to the University.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree is an asset) in instructional technology, education or a related field, combined with training and experience in adult professional development and eLearning applications or other online collaboration tools.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in technology-enhanced educational environments.
- Demonstrable advanced computer skills and the ability to quickly learn new software applications and tools, including tools such as Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience using and administering Learning Management Systems (LMS) and/or Content Management Systems (CMS) tools.
- Experience using coding applications in the development of semantic HTML webpage content for LMS delivery. Experience working with CSS and JavaScript, within the LMS’s capabilities, to build engaging and accessible content.
- Knowledge of technical standards and specifications including IMS and SCORM.
- Knowledge of current best practices in instructional design and curriculum development, including an understanding of accessibility principles and digital inclusivity.
- Effective using Google Workspace for communication and collaboration using documents, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.
- Strong organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, ability to make timely decisions and act on individual initiative.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
