Purpose Of The Role
The L&D Advisor is responsible for supporting the building of organisational capability through the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of high-quality, inclusive learning and development initiatives. From induction through to leadership development, the role ensures colleagues are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to succeed and grow.
The role is accountable for supporting the delivery of learning and organisational development interventions, measurable improvements in leadership capability, operational performance, and colleague experience, aligning all activity to organisational priorities and workforce needs.
Working in partnership with leaders and subject matter experts, the role drives a consistent and high-quality approach to learning, supports workforce planning and succession, and uses data, insight, and systems to continuously improve impact and effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, facilitation, and continuous improvement of engaging, inclusive, and high-quality learning programmes (including induction, and operational training). Ensuring all L&D activity is aligned to operational priorities, demonstrating clear links to service performance, productivity, and workforce stability.
- Own and deliver a seamless, first-class onboarding and induction experience in partnership with the Talent Acquisition and People Services team members, ensuring new colleagues are effectively integrated and set up for success.
- Support skills mapping and capability insight to support the development of talent management frameworks, including career pathways, succession planning, and leadership development programmes to future-proof organisational capability.
- Act as system lead for the LMS, ensuring data integrity, compliance, reporting, and user engagement, while promoting self-directed learning and providing training and support to stakeholders.
- Partner with leaders and managers to forecast learning needs, improve training completion and compliance, enable operational delivery, and provide data-driven insights to inform decision-making.
- Champion a positive, inclusive learning culture by role modelling organisational values, supporting wellbeing and engagement initiatives, embedding behaviour change approaches driven by evidence-based practices.
Skills
Essential Requirements:
- Previous experience as an L&D Facilitator, L&D Specialist or similar role i.e. a training qualification or requisite experience to deliver at senior leadership level.
- Content creation: in person and virtual taking into consideration learning methodologies and different learning styles.
- Ability to work collaboratively to build successful and strong working relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, presentation and public speaking skills (including group facilitation skills and able to engage groups in meaningful discussions).
- Positive attitude and ability to engage and motivate others.
Knowledge
- Knowledge and understanding of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion best practice.
- Good working knowledge of GDPR regulations.
- Knowledge of up-to-date learning models and delivery techniques.
- Knowledge of training skills/qualifications required across a multi-departmental operational organisation.
- Broad knowledge of HR practices and how L&D links with talent, performance and workforce planning.
Experience
- Demonstrable experience utilising e-learning software and a learning management system.
- Experience of delivering training in a virtual environment.
- Ability managing individual projects and contributing to wider organisational projects
