This is not a traditional training coordinator role.
We are currently seeking a Workforce Development Coordinator to help design, build, and implement the systems, programs, and processes that support employee growth from their first day with Thyssen Mining through every stage of their career. This position offers the opportunity to help shape a best-in-class workforce development model within the mining industry.
Position Summary
Reporting to the General Manager, Training & Workforce Development, the Workforce Development Coordinator will support the development, implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of workforce development initiatives across the organization. This position is based out of our head office in Regina, SK.
Working closely with operational leaders, project teams, Human Resources, and senior leadership, you will help build programs and systems that strengthen employee capability, leadership effectiveness, organizational performance, and long-term workforce sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Workforce Development & Organizational Capability
- Support the development and maintenance of competency frameworks for key organizational roles.
- Assist in creating career pathways and employee development roadmaps.
- Coordinate succession planning initiatives and support workforce planning activities.
- Identify capability gaps and recommend practical development solutions.
- Assist with the ongoing development of the Thyssen University learning model.
Leadership Development
- Coordinate leadership development programs across all organizational levels.
- Support onboarding and development for supervisors, superintendents, managers, and emerging leaders.
- Administer mentorship and coaching programs.
- Coordinate leadership assessments and development tools.
- Assist in creating leadership learning pathways and curriculum.
Learning Systems & Technology
- Administer and optimize learning management systems (LMS).
- Coordinate digital learning initiatives, including LinkedIn Learning and other platforms.
- Maintain competency tracking systems, development records, and training databases.
- Develop dashboards, reports, and workforce development metrics.
- Monitor learning participation, program effectiveness, and organizational development trends.
Program Design & Implementation
- Develop learning resources, development tools, and program materials.
- Coordinate internal and external training activities.
- Facilitate workshops and development sessions as required.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
- Maintain training governance, documentation standards, and learning records.
Project & Stakeholder Management
- Manage multiple workforce development initiatives simultaneously.
- Develop implementation plans, schedules, timelines, and budgets.
- Coordinate activities across departments and project sites.
- Partner with operational leaders to identify workforce development needs.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior leadership.
Qualifications
Education
A degree or diploma in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Adult Education, Business Administration, Education, or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Learning and Development
- Workforce Development
- Organizational Development
- Human Resources Development

Demonstrated Capabilities
- Program design and implementation.
- Project management and coordination.
- Stakeholder engagement and relationship building.
- Learning systems and technology platforms.
- Data analysis, reporting, dashboards, and development metrics.
- Developing recommendations based on organizational needs and performance data.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in mining, construction, heavy industrial operations, or skilled trades environments is considered an asset. Additional experience in workforce planning, competency framework development, leadership development, mentorship program design, or change management would also be valued.
Professional certifications such as CPHR, CPTD, PMP, Prosci Change Management, Adult Education, or Organizational Development certifications are considered strong assets.
