The role
Here at Northumbria Police, we’re transforming the way we support learning and development across the organisation. We’re looking for a creative and forward-thinking Learning Design Specialist to help shape how we develop skills, capability and performance across the force.
You’ll work closely with leaders, managers and teams across the organisation, using a performance consulting approach to identify challenges, understand root causes and develop innovative solutions that drive meaningful improvements in performance, behaviours and workforce capability. Working with a wide range of stakeholders, you’ll influence decision-making, challenge thinking and help ensure learning interventions deliver measurable business outcomes.
You’ll design and develop engaging learning solutions using a variety of approaches including facilitated learning, digital content, video, infographics, eLearning and immersive learning experiences. As part of our ambition to embrace emerging learning technologies, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape the future of learning within the force, exploring innovative approaches including interactive and immersive technologies, simulation-based learning and virtual reality solutions. You’ll also play a key role in promoting and marketing learning products and services, helping drive engagement and embed a learner-led culture across the organisation.
What you’ll do
- Partner with stakeholders across the organisation to identify performance challenges and opportunities, using a performance consulting approach to recommend learning and non-learning solutions that deliver measurable improvements.
- Build strong relationships with leaders, managers and subject matter experts, influencing decision-making and challenging thinking to drive positive behavioural and organisational change.
- Design and develop engaging learning solutions using a range of approaches including digital learning, instructor-led training, blended learning, video, infographics and immersive learning experiences.
- Create high-quality digital learning content using modern authoring tools, multimedia technologies and emerging learning platforms.
- Support the development and adoption of innovative learning technologies, including immersive and interactive learning tools, with opportunities to shape future developments in areas such as virtual and augmented reality.
- Project manage multiple learning and organisational development initiatives simultaneously, ensuring successful delivery and positive business outcomes.
- Market and promote learning products and services across the organisation, encouraging engagement, adoption and the development of a learner-led culture.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of learning interventions and use data and feedback to continuously improve products, services and learner experiences.
What you’ll bring
Essential
- Experience working in performance consulting, learning and development, organisational development, instructional design or a related field.
- Experience engaging with and influencing stakeholders at all levels, including the confidence to challenge constructively and drive change.
- Experience designing and developing engaging learning solutions using a variety of methods and technologies.
- Excellent digital content creation skills, including the development of learning materials, videos, infographics, presentations and other multimedia resources.
- Experience with tools such as Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Cloud, Camtasia or similar digital content authoring platforms.
- Experience managing multiple projects and competing priorities to deliver successful outcomes.
- Strong communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.
- A creative and innovative mindset with a passion for improving performance through engaging learning experiences.
Desirable
- Experience creating video content, animation, interactive learning resources or immersive learning solutions.
- Experience in the use of 5Di, or a sound understanding of its application.
- Knowledge and experience of applying AI tools within a learning and development environment.
- Experience managing Learning Management Systems (LMS) or Learning Experience Platforms (LXP).
- Experience marketing, promoting or driving adoption of learning products, services or organisational initiatives.
- Experience in immersive learning technologies, simulation-based learning, virtual reality or emerging learning technologies.
- A recognised qualification in Learning & Development, Learning Design, Organisational Development, Educational Technology or a related discipline.

Terms of appointment
This is a permanent role subject to a six-month probationary period.
