Position Overview
SWAT Consulting Inc. is seeking a Technical Advisor to support our growing Remediation/Reclamation project team. The position can be based out of any of our offices located in Leduc, Calgary, or Grande Prairie, Alberta. We currently work with a hybrid model, with a split of working from home and working from the office. The position is expected to be 100% office-based with a focus on asset retirement and liability management projects, primarily assessment and remediation work types. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience in the environmental industry and ideally 5+ years of experience in project management and a technical advisement role. The role requires the candidate to be available after-hours and on weekends on an as needed basis to support the overall project team, depending on project workload.
Responsibilities
- Providing technical support and oversight for environmental assessment, remediation, and liability management programs with a primary focus on supporting work scope development, data gap analysis and recommendations, understanding and communicating regulatory requirements, and technical review of reporting deliverables.
- Providing technical support and oversight for asset retirement obligation programs including Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Phase 2 ESAs, remediation projects, reclamation projects, and site closure through Detailed Site Assessments (DSAs) and Reclamation Certificate Applications (RCAs).
- Analyze field and laboratory data against regulatory guidelines and develop site-specific remediation plans based on the application of Tier 2 guidelines, including but not limited to the use of the Subsoil Salinity Tool (SST), pathway elimination, guideline modification and site-specific risk assessment (SSRA) and Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) Record of Site Condition (RoSC) in OneStop .
- Experience preparing Site Specific Liability Assessments (SSLAs) and applying the AER Liability Management Framework across diverse oil & gas asset classes would be considered an asset.
- Providing technical support and oversight for complex projects and periodic site visits for project scoping and to assess safety compliance with field crews.
- Participating in regular safety and workload meetings to work collaboratively with assignment of available resources between the Operations Managers and the Director of Operations.
- Supporting the preparation of project specific scopes and budgets and request for proposal projects on an as needed basis.
- Supervise, mentor and train junior and intermediate environmental staff across various technical disciplines.
- Building strong collaborative relationships with SWAT employees and supporting development of SWATs quality control and assurance standards.
- Liaising with clients, project stakeholders, landowners, and regulatory authorities across various projects and jurisdictions.
- Participating in business development towards new and existing clients.
- Supporting development of SWATs quality control and assurance standards.
- Working with multiple projects within scope, budget and schedule while ensuring quality on deliverables.
Qualifications
- Degree or technical diploma in an environmental discipline, with experience to provide technical oversight and professional sign-off.
- Membership and active professional status with an accredited professional association (P.Eng., P. Geo., P.Ag, P.Chem., R.TAg, P.Biol, P.Tech. (Eng.), etc.) is a requirement.
- Minimum 10+ years’ experience within the Oil and Gas, or related industry, with environmental project work.
- Strong understanding of oil and gas regulatory requirements including Alberta Tier 1 and 2 Guidelines, the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) Guidelines and AER Directives 50 and 58 and Directive 001 (requirements for SSLA).
- Knowledge and experience with the Contaminated Sites Regulation (CSR) 375/96 in British Columbia or PNG 045 in Saskatchewan would be considered an asset.
- Experience with the full environmental project life cycle including assessment, remediation, and reclamation work types and required reporting deliverables for each stage of work activity for liability management and closure.
- Demonstrated organizational and safety leadership skills, and a desire to improve methods and standards for efficient work completion.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a team-based environment, with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, and excellent time management, written and verbal communication skills.
- Critical thinking with a focus on efficient task execution and achievement of project objectives.
- An enthusiastic attitude, ability to multi-task and a passion for consistently delivering high quality work.
- An eagerness to work with a dynamic team and a small growth-oriented company.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple work activities and concurrently deadlines.
- Computer and software proficiency is required (Microsoft applications, Adobe , GIS platforms, AbaData, FWIMT, OneStop, etc.).
- Must possess a valid Class 5 (non-GDL) driver’s licence.
- Must complete and pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
