Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) invites applicants for the position of Early Learning Consultant (1.0 FTE), Supports for Students for the 2026-27 school year. This is is a 10-month,
one-year term position with the possibility of extension and follows the school calendar but may include additional work outside of this at the discretion of the Director.
Supports for Students is seeking an energetic, innovative educational leader who is an ‘outside the box’ thinker with the ability to independently solve problems from multiple angles and perspectives while managing many roles and demands. Reporting to the Director of Specialized Supports, Supports for Students, this position provides support to EIPS staff and students, emphasizing support and training for teachers and administrators as they develop knowledge and master a variety of effective early learning instructional practices at the elementary level.
As part of the Elementary Educational team, the Early Learning Consultant will demonstrate understanding and knowledge of curriculum, reporting, literacy and assessment practices. The successful candidate will support PALS and ELM, curriculum redesign and the transition toward conceptual understanding and competency-based assessment via effective professional learning facilitation and delivery.
The position involves travel across the division, serving schools in Sherwood Park, rural Strathcona County, and the eastern edge, which may include Vegreville, Mundare, Lamont, and Bruderheim.

Responsibilities Will Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Working as a member of the Supports for Students team to provide coordinated
services with a focus on building educator and program capacity in early
learning environments, supporting young children with diverse
developmental and educational needs.

- Working alongside early learning teams to:
- Implement developmentally appropriate, evidence-based practices for young children
(ISPs).
- Support the use of play-based, inclusive, and responsive programming that aligns
with early childhood best practices.
- Implement supports for children with diverse behavioural and developmental needs
through a trauma-informed and relationship-based lens.
- Support programming for children with developmental delays and diagnoses (e.g.,
Autism Spectrum Disorder), with a focus on communication, early learning,
social interaction, and emotional regulation.
- Build the capacity of early learning educators and teams through coaching, collaboration, and ongoing support.
- Partner with families to support understanding of child development and to
strengthen home–school connections.

audits and program reviews.
- Supporting code reviews and compliance with relevant early childhood and education
standards.
- Assisting with the development and implementation of consistent, high-quality
preschool programming across the division.

to early childhood education and inclusive preschool practices.
- Working collaboratively as part of the Supports for Students team to ensure
alignment with EIPS and Alberta Education policies, procedures, and
legislation, with a focus on early learning.
- Collaborating with other EIPS departments such as Instructional Supports, Student
Transportation, and Human Resources to ensure that the needs of young
children and families are met effectively.
- Collaborating with community partners such as Alberta Health Services (including
Speech-Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, and Mental Health),
Family and Community Services, and Children’s Services to support
wraparound services for children and families.
Education And Experience
- Alberta Permanent Teaching Certificate
- Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience
- Extensive experience and knowledge of literacy at the elementary level through all content areas
- Master’s Degree or current enrollment in a Master’s program is considered an asset

- Proficient in a variety of technological platforms
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others to support integrated service delivery
