Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Learning & Development, the Learning & Development Instructional Designer is responsible for designing and developing engaging training solutions for Eye Recommend and Eye Care Collective members and their teams. This role manages the full content development lifecycle, leveraging a range of technologies to produce effective in-person, online, and blended learning experiences. Working closely with Business Coaches and the Training Team, the Designer identifies training needs and crafts innovative programs and materials accordingly for the Field Team and on demand learning on Eye Recommend Academy. The position also emphasizes collaboration with a strong focus on instructional design and multimedia development. This role is based in Canada.

Role Responsibilities
- Lead the instructional design and development of new training courses and modules, from concept to completion.
- Create engaging and precise optical content, including scripts, presentations, interactive exercises, assessments, and supporting materials, for various learning modalities (e.g., e-learning, blended learning, in-person training programs).
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify training gaps and translate complex optical concepts into clear, concise, and engaging learning content.
- Use authoring tools and multimedia software to create high-quality digital content and learning assets which can include video editing and other tasks.
- Assist with maintaining the LMS platform, including user accounts, course uploads, troubleshooting, and platform upgrades.
- Work with Eye Care Collective management to create and integrate learning into the LMS.
- Assist the membership with ER Academy troubleshooting and support.
- Provide content expertise and guidance to training colleagues as required.
- Occasional opportunities to work with the Learning and Development team to deliver best-in-class training, with in-person and virtual education for members and their teams based on the needs of the business.
- Offer strong customer service to internal ER staff and act as a liaison and contact person for content development inquiries.
- Stay current with trends in instructional design, e-learning technologies, and optical industry developments to ensure content remains relevant and cutting-edge.
The Successful Candidate
- Provincial license or certification by a nationally accredited association, such as an Optician or Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant (CCOA).
- Exceptional written and visual communication skills, with a strong ability to translate complex information into understandable and engaging learning content.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, particularly in project management for content development.
- Committed to excelling as a member of a high-performing team.
- Pays meticulous attention to detail in content accuracy and instructional design.
- Able to self-motivate as well as work within a team, both in person and virtually.
- Ability to navigate and tailor content to various learning styles.
- Results-oriented.
- Proficient PC knowledge, including Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
- Demonstrated experience with e-learning authoring tools, particularly Articulate Storyline or Rise 360, is highly preferred.
- Willing and able to travel throughout the region as needed for content gathering or occasional training support.
