Job Description
Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer and in partnership with the Senior Leadership Team, the Vice President, Community Wellbeing provides bold leadership for the vision, strategy, and evolution of the organization’s Community Wellbeing efforts. By mobilizing internal YMCA teams and external systems, this role reimagines the YMCA’s service delivery model, advances belonging and wellbeing across communities, and drives innovative, scalable solutions that deepen impact and long-term sustainability.

Qualifications - Bachelor's degree is required and Master's degree is preferred.
- 10+ years of executive-level experience required, including leadership of collective impact efforts and systems-level change initiatives.
- 8+ years of experience within the relevant functional area.
- Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications.
- CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
- American Red Cross
- American Heart Association
- American Safety & Health Institute

Essential Functions
- Lead and sustain the Association’s Community Wellbeing strategy, aligned with the YMCA of San Diego County logic model, Theory of Change, and strategic roadmap.
- Drive association-wide strategies to expand reach, engagement, retention, and impact across programs and membership using data, analytics, and predictive insights.
- Provide leadership for local, state, and national community wellbeing initiatives, including participation in the Y Wellbeing Network and regional and national collaboratives.
- Develop and steward strategic partnerships and diversified funding streams, including public and private funding, third-party payer arrangements, and medical reimbursements.
- Design and lead a Wellbeing Framework grounded in evidence-based practices, community-centered programming, integrated service delivery, and social determinants of health.
- Integrate community wellbeing strategy into Association operations, establishing measurable goals, KPIs, and outcomes across branches, camps, and CSS.
- Lead development of an association-wide service delivery model, aligning culture, team wellbeing, learning and development, community bridging and belonging, and participant engagement.
- Oversee evaluation, impact measurement, and continuous quality improvement (CQI) aligned with PYD, health intervention models, and the Association Theory of Change.
- Partner with executive leadership and Development to advance strategy, secure funding, and scale community wellbeing efforts at the Association, state, and national levels.
- Establish membership growth best practices that position membership as a driver of individual and community wellbeing through training, engagement, and data-informed strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate strategic partnerships that advance and strengthen support for the YMCA of San Diego County.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences clearly and effectively.
- Demonstrated commitment to applying a strengths-based approach to improve existing practices and support effective change management.
- Highly skilled in change management and emotional intelligence, fostering trust, adaptability, and engagement across stakeholders.
- Proven ability to apply an organizational lens to community wellbeing initiatives, ensuring relevance, alignment, and cross-functional application.
- Experience developing association-wide strategic plans, including research, community listening sessions, evaluations, outcome measurement, and continuous quality improvement (CQI).
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with public and private partners at the local, state, and national levels.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams toward a shared community wellbeing approach.
- Effective collaborator with a track record of building alignment, managing change, and advancing Association-wide initiatives.
