Head of Academy (Learning Experience & Product) to join the team on a Hybrid basis from the head office in Kingsclere, Newbury, Hampshire, UK.
The key purpose of the role is to Lead TWPL’s global Academy to design, deliver, and scale modern learning experiences, online, blended, and classroom, that grow revenue, increase client impact, and differentiate us in the market. Own portfolio strategy, learning product development, platform capability and digital credentials, delivery quality, and commercial performance.
TWPL is focusing near‑term growth on Training and Academy offerings; we operate globally across asset‑intensive sectors: energy and utilities; oil and gas; chemicals; mining; transport and logistics; government and infrastructure; manufacturing. We are uplifting our e‑learning capability, exploring AI‑enabled microlearning, and strengthening digital credentials. Competitively, we must deliver simpler pathways, stronger UX, visible social proof, and friction‑free booking, while showcasing TWPL’s depth and credibility.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy and Portfolio
- Own the Academy strategy and P&L: portfolio roadmap, pricing and packaging, go‑to‑market for public and in‑company programmes.
- Define clear learning pathways by role, level, and sector: pre‑assessments; guided journeys; credential stacks and progression.
- Build corporate capability solutions: blended programmes, simulations and business games, role‑play for experiential learning, tailored for asset‑intensive sectors.
Learning Product Development:
- Lead instructional design across online, blended, and classroom, grounded in adult learning science: scenario‑based practice; spaced repetition; retrieval practice; application tasks.
- Commission and quality‑assure high‑impact assets: interactive modules, short video, facilitator guides, assessments and item banks, job aids, infographics.
- Implement an assessment strategy: diagnostics; formative and summative assessment; practical assignments mapped to relevant standards and competencies.
- Embed AI‑supported microlearning and practice activities with appropriate governance and human review; ensure accessibility and inclusion.
Platforms, Credentials and Data:
- Lead the selection and implementation of best‑in‑class LMS and digital credentialing solutions, ensuring global scalability, mobile‑first UX, robust analytics, and secure integrations.
- Ensure compliance with learning standards: SCORM 1.2 or 2004; xAPI; content accessibility to WCAG 2.1 AA.
- Build learning analytics and dashboards: enrolments; progress; completion; satisfaction; learning gain; impact measures; use A or B testing to optimise pages and conversion.
Delivery and Faculty:
- Personally facilitate flagship programmes where beneficial, set the gold standard for delivery and learner experience.
- Recruit, onboard, and develop a global faculty of internal staff and associates; run train‑the‑trainer pathways; observation cycles; calibration for consistency.
- Oversee scheduling, learner communications, classroom logistics, and material readiness across time zones.
Go‑to‑Market and Brand
- Partner with Marketing to ensure course pages and campaigns are clear and persuasive: value propositions; visible social proof; sample lessons or previews; strong calls to action.
- Generate case studies and testimonials in partnership with delivery teams; integrate credential sharing to amplify reach.
- Support Business Development with solution outlines, proposals, discovery workshops, and demos; represent TWPL in webinars and conferences.
Person Specification:
- Ideally 8 to 12 years in corporate L&D or learning product leadership within B2B or professional services, with evidence of revenue or P&L ownership for a training portfolio.
- Track record building both online and classroom learning products that deliver measurable business outcomes: adoption; completion; NPS; renewals and expansion.
- Instructional design mastery, ADDIE or Agile or SAM, with hands‑on capability to review and direct the build of interactive modules and media to a high standard.
- Facilitation excellence for technical and professional audiences; strong learner feedback and demonstrable impact.
- Platform leadership experience: implemented or significantly upgraded an LMS, familiar with SCORM or xAPI, SSO, e‑commerce, analytics, and integrations.
- Experience with digital credentials and external accreditation or certification pathways, without being tied to a specific vendor.
- Exposure to asset‑intensive industries and global cohorts: energy and utilities; oil and gas; transport; manufacturing; government and infrastructure.
Desirables:
- Domain knowledge in Asset Management, ISO 55000, reliability or maintenance; IAM qualifications, or a plan to achieve within 6 to 12 months.
- Experience using simulations, business games, and role‑play to drive behavioural change and decision‑making.
- Applied experience with AI in learning, for example prompt‑assisted drafting, adaptive quizzes, chat‑based practice, governed by human review and QA.
- Multi‑language capability and cross‑cultural facilitation, with familiarity in Middle East and South America contexts.
- Degree in Education, Learning Sciences, Engineering, Operations, or a related field.
- Recognised L&D credentials: CIPD Level 5 or 7 in L&D; ATD CPTD; CMI or ILM leadership qualifications, or equivalent.
