The Learning Design and Development Lead drives evidence-based learning experiences that accelerate employee growth and organizational capability at Roblox. Reporting to the Senior Director of People Experience and Learning, this role combines strategic learning design grounded in research with expert facilitation, supporting both individual development and team performance across our rapidly scaling organization.
The ideal candidate is both practitioner and scholar – someone who can facilitate an engaging leadership workshop in the morning, then rigorously evaluate its effectiveness using learning science principles in the afternoon. You don't just know what works; you know
why it works based on research, and can articulate the evidence behind your design decisions. You're equally comfortable citing studies on psychological safety as you are debating a room of leaders, building learner personas or designing multi-method program evaluations. You'll work independently with support from Learning and Coaching Partners and close collaboration with People Science and People Business Partners across the organization.
What You'll Do
- Co-lead Amplify leadership development - Partner with Learning and Coaching Partners and business leaders to deliver premier manager and leadership development experiences for 500+ people leaders, applying evidence-based principles from the body of leadership research
- Partner with the business on team performance - Serve as a strategic advisor to business leaders on team effectiveness solutions, applying organizational psychology research and proven frameworks to diagnose needs and design interventions; facilitate group development sessions, offsites, and team effectiveness initiatives as needed.
- Support development for all Builders - Design and co-facilitate research-informed people experiences to drive deeper performance and understanding, from onboarding through performance management, feedback, career growth, and change navigation
- Innovate at scale - Develop scalable learning experiences using AI-powered tools, Learning Studio content creation, and learning science principles
- Drive rigorous evaluation - Partner with People Science and Analytics to measure program effectiveness using frameworks like Kirkpatrick/Phillips models, going beyond satisfaction surveys to assess behavior change and business impact. Continuously refine programs based on data, feedback, and current research.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years experience in learning and development, organizational development, people science, or related field with demonstrated impact
- Master's degree in Adult Learning/Education, Learning Sciences, Instructional Design, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, or related field with demonstrated application of learning theory (e.g., andragogy, social learning theory, expertise development, self-determination theory) to workplace programs
- Strong facilitation expertise with experience leading engaging sessions for groups of 20-100 people across different formats (workshops, offsites, virtual sessions)
- Experience designing and delivering leadership development programs or manager training curricula grounded in current research on leadership effectiveness
- Instructional design expertise - Formal training in ADDIE, SAM, or other instructional design models with portfolio demonstrating application
- Rigorous evaluation approach - Experience conducting program evaluations beyond satisfaction surveys, using experimental or quasi-experimental designs, control groups, or other methods to measure learning impact and behavioral change
- Experience in high-growth technology companies navigating rapid scaling challenges
- Research translation skills - Ability to translate academic research and learning science into applied interventions; stay current with peer-reviewed research in learning science, leadership development, and organizational psychology
- Program management expertise with ability to design, implement, and continuously optimize learning experiences based on evidence
- Cross-functional collaboration - Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders, business leaders, and People Business Partners to diagnose needs and deliver solutions
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Learning Sciences, Adult Learning, or related field; or MBA with L&D specialization
- Published research or conference presentations at learning science or HR conferences (ATD, SIOP, Academy of Management, Learning Sciences conferences)
- Advanced evaluation design - Experience with psychometric principles, 360-degree assessments, or multi-rater feedback instruments
- Technical proficiency with AI tools, learning management systems, digital content creation platforms, and data analysis tools
- Data and analytics orientation - Comfort with learning analytics, survey design, basic statistical methods, and translating data into actionable insights
- Experience in game-based learning
- Coaching or facilitation certification (ICF, CTI, or similar)
For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on
this page.
Annual Salary Range
$201,920—$235,880 USD
Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
