Senior Director, Learning Innovation
The CPA Western School of Business (CPAWSB) provides an innovative, competency-based learning program to more than 15,000 learners in Western and Northern Canada who are completing their formal education towards certification as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in Canada. CPAWSB delivers the CPA Preparatory Courses and the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP) through a combination of online distance learning and face-to-face modules which prepare candidates for the national Common Final Examination (CFE). The School is dedicated to providing excellent service in meeting learners’ education and support needs and to working effectively with everyone.
We currently have an opportunity for the full-time permanent position of Senior Director, Learning Innovation. Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Learning and Innovation, the Senior Director, Learning Innovation plays a key role in designing and enhancing education programs, driving research-informed curriculum innovation, and implementing cutting-edge educational technologies to support learner success and program excellence.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to:
- Develop and execute strategic and operational plans, including budgets, aligned with organizational priorities.
- Lead a high-performing team and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Build collaborative relationships with regulatory bodies, post-secondary institutions, employers, and contractors.
- Advise senior leadership and the Board on strategic initiatives and governance matters.
- Oversee the design and ongoing enhancement of all education programs, including the new CPA Professional Program.
- Manage learning development vendors and incorporate stakeholder feedback to ensure program relevance and effectiveness.
- Establish and monitor metrics to assess program success and learner outcomes.
- Drive a research-informed approach to curriculum and delivery innovation, identifying and piloting emerging trends.
- Promote excellence in education through continuous improvement and research.
- Implement and manage educational technologies that support efficient program delivery and learner success.
- Select and oversee technology vendors and stay ahead of emerging tools and trends.
- Conduct annual reviews of personal information practices and ensure compliance with privacy policies.
Knowledge and Experience Required
Include but are not limited to:
- CPA designation (required).
- Master’s degree in education, Instructional Design, or related field (preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting curriculum development.
- At least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Experience in professional accounting course facilitation (asset).
- Proven track record in strategic planning, budgeting, and team leadership.

- Willingness to work flexible hours and travel as needed.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
This role is eligible for hybrid work. The CPAWSB is based primarily in Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver. If based outside of these centers, the successful candidate may be required to travel to a CPAWSB office from time to time, or as required.
Recruitment is restricted to candidates residing in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba.
The salary range for this role is $126,100 to $189,100.
