Reporting to the Manager, Wellness & Disability, the Team Lead will be responsible for supporting Case Managers by identifying coaching opportunities and working closely with the Disability Training and Claims Specialist to roll out best practice training. The incumbent will also be responsible for supporting staff in meeting department performance targets, conducting and reporting on audit metrics, caseload assignment and disability appeal reviews (level 1).
As an expert in case management best practices and claims management systems, the Team Lead will support and coach the Case Managers on complex cases and will support the Manager on workload management, case escalations and participate in meetings or reviews as requested.
What You Will Do
- Working one-on-one with Case Managers on complex cases and navigation of COLO, Cowan’s proprietary claims management system
- Working with the Manager and trainer to set-up regular team coaching, ongoing learning and development sessions related to best practices and processes
- Working with the Manager and Management Team to review existing practices, processes, policies and templates and work towards building materials to help integrate and standardize our processes
- Supporting staff in meeting performance targets, metrics and conducting regular audits, providing results and feedback related to the audits
- Supporting the Manager with workload distribution and case escalations as requested
- Assisting the Management Team with overall strategic plans and projects to optimize the department for strategic growth and profitability
What You Will Bring
- 5+ years of short-term disability claims management experience
- Strong knowledge of disability management best practices, plan design, and employer wellness programs
- Strong knowledge of employment standards, WSIB/WCB/CSST, human rights, collective bargaining and labour relations with respect to disability management
- Knowledge and experience with claims management systems
- Solid knowledge and expertise in proactive functional management of claims including motivational phone interviewing and gradual return to work planning
- Training and coaching abilities
- Proficient in writing and creating training materials
- Exceptional decision making, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple demands to achieve priorities and required results
- Proficiency with excel and data analysis
- University Degree/College Diploma or equivalent experience
- Bilingual (French and English) written and spoken language is an asset
