About the Role:
We are looking for a dynamic Human Resources professional to join a team of Regional HR Consultants who will provide HR advice and solutions to Agriculture Industry Employers. The HR Consultant will be responsible for developing and implementing regional initiatives and building strong Industry Employer relationships in the assigned region while promoting progressive HR practices.
This role is a 12-15 month full-time contract position in a remote work environment with the ability to travel throughout one of four designated regions in BC.
- BC Lower Mainland (Delta, Richmond, Langley, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge)
- Fraser Valley (Mission, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Agassiz/Harrison)
- Okanagan (North and South)
- Vancouver Island
What You’ll Do:
HR Advisory Services
- Provide expert, professional advice and resource information to Agricultural employers on a wide range of HR matters including workforce strategy, current HR trends, recruitment, onboarding, retention, compensation, training, health & safety and employee/labour relations
- Promote progressive HR practices including but not limited to living wages; learning and development plans; employee scheduling; benefits plans; and strengthening workplace culture
- Offer realistic and practical solutions for common HR challenges encountered by employers in the workplace
- Connect employers to provincial and federal government programs that support recruitment, retention and training
Regional HR Initiatives
- Develop, deliver, and support specific regional HR initiatives including informational webinars, HR support packages for employers, promoting agriculture career awareness programs, and other initiatives as identified through field representative engagement.
- Attend virtual and in-person Industry events including Industry conferences, and present on HR-related topics of interest
Industry and Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with regional employers, employees, educators, businesses, marketing groups, government and other key agriculture partners
- Assist in the development of regional content (articles, employer best practices etc.) for the AgSafeBC website, newsletters, trade publications and social media platforms to ensure it is timely, accurate, relevant and industry-focused
- Ensure regular and ongoing communications with employers in person, through emails, social media and other channels
- Travel throughout the assigned region for various in-person activities (as any applicable restrictions and orders permit)
Team
- Build strong relationships with field representative teams to facilitate regional initiative development and communications to employers
- Work closely, and collaboratively with members of the HR team and other internal teams (Field Representatives, Program Development, Communications) at AgSafe in the development and execution of services and activities in the region (e.g. recruitment events, training and development initiatives, industry engagement, development of regional articles and social media content, and other initiatives) both in person and virtually
- Participate in, and contribute to team and organizational meetings
Who You Are:
- You bring a minimum of five (5) years of progressive HR experience in a business environment with at least two (2) years as a HR Manager/HR Business Partner, preferably but not required within the agriculture industry
- You have formal education (Bachelor’s degree or diploma) in Human Resources Management or a post-secondary degree, or a combination of education and appropriate experience. You also hold a CPHR designation (or working towards).
- You possess current knowledge of HR, labour/employee relations, workplace health and safety, provincial and federal employment-related legislation.
- You have an understanding of the rural business environment and/or agriculture in the region (significant advantage)
- You are an exceptional listener and communicator both verbally and written; knowledge of Punjabi is an asset
- You have experience in international recruitment; HR/Business consulting experience an asset
- You possess excellent public speaking skills, demonstrate the ability to lead meetings, develop and deliver effective presentations to key stakeholders
- You have the ability to create and maintain effective and credible relationships with agriculture industry leaders, employers, industry associations, government officials and educators
- You demonstrate the ability to build strong relationships and contribute within a collaborative team as well as work independently
- You have strong skills in time management, organization and prioritization, take initiative, employ sound judgement, and maintain confidentiality and diplomacy
- You are proficient with Microsoft Office suite and virtual meeting platforms (MS Teams, Zoom)
- You have a valid BC Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle.
- You are legally eligible to work in Canada
Salary range: $80,000 - $95,000 per year
