Project Overview:
HurixDigital is seeking US-based Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in Risk Management to support the design and development of for the Risk Management of one of our US-based clients.
This is a remote 1099 contract opportunity.
Lead SME:
Scope of Work:
The Lead SME defines and owns the curriculum architecture, scope, sequencing, and learning outcomes across all six courses, and co-creates course-level direction with the instructional designer and any Supporting SMEs.
Provide your own 16-week outline, assessments, and discussion prompts for each course.
- Define appropriate scope and progression across Enterprise Risk Management, Principles of Insurance, Life & Health Insurance, Property & Casualty Insurance, Insurance Company Operations, and Commercial Lines.
- Ensure the appropriate use of risk management and insurance frameworks, including COSO ERM, ISO 31000, and current industry practices.
- Source authoritative industry references, OERs, regulatory materials, and authentic diagrams or visuals to support technical accuracy.
- Guide and coordinate Supporting SMEs, reviewing their course content for consistency with the overall concentration.
- Contribute realistic risk management, underwriting, claims, insurance, and enterprise risk scenarios, case studies, and examples throughout the concentration.
- Identify regulatory, legal, ethical, or jurisdiction-specific topics that require particular care.
- Ensure content reflects current workforce expectations and real-world professional practice.
- Review course materials for subject-matter accuracy, currency, completeness, and appropriate undergraduate depth.
- Participate in working sessions throughout the build, not only at review checkpoints.
- Provide timely, consolidated direction within agreed timelines.
The Lead SME is fully accountable for the accuracy, currency, and completeness of subject matter across the entire concentration.
SME Qualifications & Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, or MBA with a risk/insurance concentration.
- 5 or more years of professional experience across one or more of the following:
- Corporate risk management
- Enterprise risk management
- Insurance carrier operations
- Underwriting
- Claims
- Commercial insurance
- Property & Casualty insurance
- Life & Health insurance
- Prior experience shaping or leading curriculum, training programs, or multi-course content development.
- Strong understanding of professional risk management and insurance operations.
- Strong familiarity with COSO ERM, ISO 31000, and current industry practices.
- Ability to distinguish enterprise risk management from traditional insurance or hazard-risk management.
- Ability to translate technical, quantitative, regulatory, and insurance concepts into appropriate undergraduate learning content, and to guide others in doing the same.
- Ability to identify when content requires current regulatory or jurisdiction-specific review.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CRM, FRM, CPCU, or equivalent professional credential.
- Experience mentoring or coordinating other subject matter experts.
- Experience building or shaping online learning content, not only reviewing it.
- Prior teaching, curriculum-development, or instructional-review experience.
- Familiarity with adult-learning methodologies and workforce-aligned education.
- Experience developing authentic scenarios, case studies, assessments, or applied learning activities.
- Experience with current insurance regulation, compliance, or market practices.
- Familiarity with quantitative risk concepts appropriate for undergraduate learners, including frequency, severity, expected loss, risk prioritization, probability, insurance pricing concepts, and policy calculations.
Success in the Role:
A strong Lead SME brings current professional knowledge across risk management and insurance, sets a clear and consistent vision for the concentration, and recognizes where regulatory precision, quantitative accuracy, and jurisdiction-specific context matter.
Success in this role means actively shaping and owning the content and direction for all six courses, ensuring appropriate progression from foundational risk and insurance concepts through enterprise risk, insurance operations, and commercial application, and helping the Supporting SMEs and instructional designer deliver a coherent, workforce-ready program rather than simply approving finished drafts.
Supporting SME:
Key Responsibilities:
The Supporting SME defines the scope, sequence, and level of complexity for their
assigned course, and co-creates learning outcomes and module objectives with the Lead
SME and instructional designer.
- Provide and own the 16-week outline, assessments, and discussion prompts for the assigned course.
- Source authoritative industry references, OERs, regulatory materials, and authentic diagrams or visuals to support technical accuracy and real-world relevance.
- Contribute realistic risk-management, insurance, underwriting, claims, or enterprise-risk scenarios, case studies, and examples specific to the assigned course.
- Identify regulatory, legal, ethical, quantitative, or jurisdiction-specific topics within the course that require particular care.
- Ensure the course reflects current professional practice and workforce expectations.
- Review course materials for subject-matter accuracy, currency, completeness, and appropriate undergraduate depth.
The Supporting SME participates in working sessions throughout the build, not only at
review checkpoints, and provides timely, consolidated feedback within agreed timelines.
The Supporting SME holds full accountability for the accuracy, currency, and
completeness of subject matter in their assigned course, while staying aligned to the
concentration-wide direction set by the Lead SME.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Risk Management, Finance, or MBA with a risk/insurance concentration.
- 3 to 8 years of professional experience in one or more of the following:
- Corporate risk management
- Enterprise risk management
Insurance carrier operations
- Underwriting
- Claims
- Commercial insurance
- Property & Casualty insurance
- Life & Health insurance
- Strong subject-matter expertise relevant to the assigned course.
- Familiarity with current risk-management and insurance practices, including relevant frameworks, regulations, and industry standards.
- Ability to translate technical, quantitative, regulatory, or insurance concepts into appropriate undergraduate learning content.
- Ability to distinguish between foundational concepts and content that belongs at a more advanced or specialized level.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CRM, FRM, CPCU, or equivalent professional credential.
- Prior teaching or curriculum-development experience.
- Experience building or shaping online learning content, not only reviewing it.

Pay: $30.00 per hour
