About the Position
The Research Associate will provide general monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and business development support to the Dexis Professional Services (DPS) Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) team of Dexis Consulting Group (Dexis), with a focus on MEL projects of security cooperation, nonproliferation, and other technical areas globally. The Research Associate will support at least one program evaluation with tasks including drafting evaluation work plans, conducting data collection, providing preliminary analysis and preparing presentations of findings, drafting reports, and other deliverables. The Research Associate will work collaboratively with Dexis' internal teams, partners, and clients; communicate clearly; and provide effective coordination support in a flexible, dynamic work environment.
This is an opportunity to learn and navigate the complexities involved in the field of monitoring and evaluation and U.S. Government contracting while working in a fast-paced environment. This position will have the option of being based remotely.
Responsibilities
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Support data collection efforts remotely through interviews, note taking, surveys, and other data collection instruments.
- Conduct qualitative research, literature reviews, and other desktop studies.
- Clean, code, and manage large volumes of qualitative and quantitative data.
- Provide support for data visualization and analysis.
- Draft reports, findings from evaluations, presentations and briefs, and other products.
- Provide additional support, including copy editing, preparing deliverables, and other tasks as needed.
- Engage partners, clients, and relevant stakeholders regarding M&E planning and implementation as needed and under guidance of leadership.
- Communicate results to partners, clients, and other relevant stakeholders through check-in meetings, learning sessions, and other debriefs as needed.
Business Development
- Support business development efforts including tasks such as open-source and government contracting database research, note taking and file organization, editing and formatting documents, coordinating budget inputs, drafting technical sections with close guidance, and supporting capture team planning and logistics.
- Coordinate bid teams as needed to ensure proposals and other business development efforts meet deadlines, obtain necessary approvals and documentation, communicate effectively with business partners and internal staff as needed on reviews and technical inputs, and other tasks as assigned.
- Coordinate with internal departments as needed including HR, Recruitment, Finance, Business Development, and other technical staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in international relations, political science, business, or related field.
- At least one (1) year of relevant work experience.
- Experience working on applied research and/or project monitoring and evaluation for donor funded projects.
- Familiarity with manual or software qualitative analysis techniques.
- Familiarity with survey development and analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with any data visualization tools strongly preferred (or willingness to learn quickly).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in National Security, International Relations, Social Science or relevant field.
- Quantitative or qualitative research experience.
- Familiarity with qualitative analysis software including NVivo and/or Dedoose.
- Familiarity with quantitative analysis software including Excel and/or Tableau
- Familiarity with online survey platforms, including QuestionPro and/or Qualtrics.
- Familiarity with conducting Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) and interacting with government personnel and key stakeholders, including at the senior level.
- Experience with the U.S. Department of State.
- Understanding of/experience in the international security field.
