Learning & Development Specialist

Summary Of Position

The Learning and Development Specialist develops and delivers training to improve organizational performance. Training and facilitation include weekly new hire orientation sessions, leadership development, development workshops, and special events. Additionally, the L&D Specialist works collaboratively with other L&D team members on projects as needed. The L&D Specialist is responsible for change management strategies, curriculum writing, developing training materials (e.g., job aids, in person and online instruction for adult learners) with varying levels of familiarity with technology. The L&D Specialist creates and/or delivers training and education programs in a defined area of expertise to meet the needs of an identified employee population or program client group. This position will spend approximately 60% of her/his time on development and execution of training and facilitation; and approximately 40% on other Learning & Development team initiatives and support on ongoing projects.

Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the L&D team, refine learning goals for each training shifts. initiative. Identify the most appropriate and cost- effective training approach, including selection of training media.
  • Work collaboratively with Retail and other departments/personnel to establish training objectives and strategies for all training courses
  • Direct execution of formal and informal workshops and learning experiences for large and small group presentations. Trains and assists other facilitators when needed.
  • Organize, publicize, and recruit audience for participation in Learning and Development programs.
  • Direct administrative functions necessary to deliver and document Learning and Development programs.
  • Develop and manage databases to track progress of participants and program scheduling.
  • Develop materials and secure training rooms for learning workshops.
  • Compile and enter evaluation feedback reports.
  • Perform other duties as required in support of the department including, but not limited to, periodic reporting, specific administrative requirements of a program and other training/HR duties.
  • Provide technical and organizational support in the development/implementation of an effective training curriculum for employees.
  • Conduct needs assessments, develop a training plan and implement the training plan with specific timelines.
  • Stay current on leading edge learning, knowledge management and professional development trends.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of experience in a professional training or facilitation position.
  • Knowledge of learning styles and adult learning theory.
  • Experience using and knowledge of training processes, developing and delivering training.
  • Experience of delivering a variety of teaching methods and processes (e.g., Instructor Led classroom, virtual classroom, eLearning, social and mobile learning).
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise content for varied audiences.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize work and have excellent time managements skills.
  • Ability to develop ideas in practice, work alone and make decisions.
  • Must be flexible to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and plan, organize and carry out multiple detailed tasks.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems preferred.
  • 3+ years’ experience in instructional design, development and evaluation, preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.
  • Ability to cope with and tolerate moderate levels of stress is also a necessity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
