Learning & Development Manager / Head of L&D >£60,000
Location: Hybrid - based at either Ascot, Essex OR Farringdon, with some travel to sites across the UK

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Learning & Development Manager to lead the design, implementation and continuous improvement of learning, capability and organisational development initiatives across a growing UK utilities business.
This is a strategic and hands-on role focused on building scalable learning solutions, embedding a culture of continuous improvement, and ensuring colleagues have the skills, knowledge and tools required to support business growth and operational excellence.
The successful candidate will have proven experience implementing and managing Learning Management Systems (LMS), working closely with Product and Technology teams, and delivering learning programmes within complex, multi-site organisations.
Key Responsibilities
Learning Strategy & Capability Development
- Develop and implement the organisation's learning and development strategy aligned to business objectives.
- Partner with senior leaders to identify capability gaps and future workforce requirements.
- Create structured learning pathways for operational, technical and leadership populations.
- Support talent development, succession planning and career progression initiatives.
LMS & Digital Learning
- Lead the implementation, optimisation and ongoing management of the Learning Management System.
- Work closely with Product, Technology and Operational teams to define learning requirements and user experience improvements.
- Drive adoption of digital learning solutions and blended learning approaches.
- Ensure accurate reporting, compliance tracking and learning analytics.
- Evaluate emerging learning technologies and recommend enhancements.
Training Design & Delivery
- Design, develop and deliver engaging learning programmes across a range of business functions.
- Create high-quality learning content including instructor-led, virtual, e-learning and microlearning solutions.
- Standardise learning frameworks and training materials across multiple locations.
- Ensure learning interventions are practical, measurable and aligned to operational requirements.
Stakeholder & Product Team Collaboration
- Partner with Product Managers, Technology teams and subject matter experts to support product launches, system changes and operational transformation projects.
- Translate technical and operational requirements into effective learning solutions.
- Act as the key learning representative within cross-functional project teams.
Compliance & Regulatory Training
- Ensure mandatory, compliance and regulatory training requirements are effectively managed.
- Maintain robust training records and audit readiness.
- Support internal and external audits relating to competency, compliance and training standards.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Establish and monitor learning KPIs, engagement metrics and training effectiveness measures.
- Use data and feedback to continuously improve learning outcomes.
- Promote a culture of learning, coaching and continuous improvement throughout the organisation.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience in a Learning & Development Manager, Learning Partner or Organisational Development role.
- Demonstrable experience implementing and managing Learning Management Systems (LMS).
- Experience working alongside Product, Technology or Digital teams on learning-related projects.
- Strong instructional design and adult learning expertise.
- Experience developing digital, blended and classroom-based learning solutions.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Strong project management and organisational capability.
- Ability to analyse learning data and translate insights into actionable improvements.
- Willingness to travel regularly to sites across the UK.
Desirable
- Experience within Utilities, Infrastructure, Logistics, Engineering, Manufacturing or another regulated environment.
- Experience supporting organisational change, transformation or technology implementation projects.
- Knowledge of learning technologies, digital adoption tools and content authoring platforms.
- Relevant L&D qualification such as CIPD, LPI, AET or equivalent.
