People & Culture Generalist

Altaya Specialized Home and Support Services is seeking a People & Culture Generalist to strengthen our workforce systems, support leaders, and help build stable, well-supported teams delivering care to children, youth, and families.
This role works closely with leadership to support recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and HR compliance, while contributing to a workplace culture grounded in respect, accountability, and relational practice.
The ideal candidate is a thoughtful HR professional who can balance compliance, people support, and operational realities in a dynamic human services environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic People & Culture Support
- Provide guidance to leadership on workforce planning and employee relations matters
- Identify opportunities to improve HR systems, policies, and workforce processes
- Monitor workforce trends such as turnover, recruitment challenges, and training compliance
- Support consistent people-management practices across programs
Recruitment & Workforce Strategy
- Coordinate recruitment processes including job postings, screening, and interview scheduling
- Support hiring managers in structured and equitable hiring practices
- Maintain candidate pipelines to support staffing stability
- Track hiring timelines, vacancies, and recruitment trends
- Develop and update job descriptions to reflect evolving organizational needs
Employee Relations & Leadership Support
- Provide guidance to managers on workplace conflict, performance concerns, and employee relations
- Support early problem-solving and respectful conflict resolution
- Assist leaders with coaching conversations and disciplinary processes
- Conduct workplace investigations when required
- Promote respectful workplace practices and relational leadership
Performance Management & Staff Development
- Support performance review systems across the organization
- Assist leaders with coaching, feedback, and performance improvement planning
- Track completion of performance reviews and follow-up actions
- Provide guidance on employee development and growth opportunities
Onboarding & Workforce Integration
- Coordinate onboarding processes for new employees
- Ensure required documentation, certifications, and training are completed before independent work
- Track certifications such as First Aid and CPI
- Monitor probationary review timelines
HR Compliance & Policy Support
- Support implementation of HR policies and procedures
- Assist with policy development and updates as organizational needs evolve
- Ensure compliance with BC Employment Standards and workplace regulations
- Maintain accurate HR documentation and internal compliance records
HR Systems & Workforce Data
- Maintain HR records and employee documentation
- Utilize HR and organizational systems such as ShareVision
- Track workforce indicators including vacancies, turnover, and training compliance
- Provide HR insights to leadership to support workforce planning
Workplace Culture & Staff Wellbeing
- Support initiatives that strengthen employee engagement and recognition
- Contribute to retention and staff satisfaction strategies
- Help foster a respectful and collaborative workplace culture
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Human Resources or related field
- CPHR designation or active CPHR candidate
- Strong understanding of BC Employment Standards and HR best practices
- Experience supporting employee relations, recruitment, and performance management
- Excellent communication, coaching, and conflict resolution skills
- Strong organizational and documentation abilities
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
Additional Requirements:
- Standard/Community First Aid (CPR/AED)
- Criminal Record Check
- MCFD Prior Contact Check
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- Privacy training (or willingness to complete)
Working Environment
This role works in a hybrid office and remote environment and may occasionally travel to program locations. The position involves collaboration with managers and leadership, supporting workforce needs in a dynamic caregiving organization.
The role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and professionalism when supporting sensitive workplace matters.
