We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team in designing, developing, and maintaining the technology platforms that power our community services. You will be responsible for guiding technical direction, managing projects, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions. This role is ideal for a leader who combines technical expertise with strong management skills and a passion for making a difference through technology.
Duties
- Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Define and execute technical strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and community needs.
- Oversee the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance.
- Manage project timelines, resources, and priorities to ensure timely delivery of high-quality solutions.
- Collaborate with product managers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to translate business needs into technical requirements.
- Establish and enforce engineering best practices, coding standards, and quality assurance processes.
- Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and support professional development of team members.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring system reliability, scalability, and security.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend improvements to existing systems.
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is an asset.
- 7-10 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or management role.
- Strong proficiency in modern programming languages (such as Python, Java, JavaScript, or C#) and frameworks.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and DevOps practices.
- Deep understanding of software architecture, system design, and scalable solutions.
- Proven track record of managing engineering teams and delivering complex projects.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in community services, healthcare, or nonprofit technology sectors is considered an asset.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining team cohesion.
- Reliable high-speed internet connection for remote work.

Work Schedule
This is a remote role based in Ottawa. You will work from home while leading a distributed engineering team. Specific schedule details will be discussed during the hiring process.
