Role Overview
The Senior Director, Learning & Development serves as GXO’s enterprise architect for learning, skills, and capability development at a global level. This leader acts as a strategic thought partner with a strong hands‑on mentality—shaping GXO’s capability agenda while working closely with regional and functional leaders to co‑create solutions that drive business growth and future readiness.
The role is accountable for building a modern, scalable, and AI‑enabled L&D ecosystem that strengthens workforce skills and enables clear, skills‑based career development pathways. This includes the design of enterprise‑wide programs, frameworks, and policies that embed continuous learning into the rhythm of the business.
Success in this role requires the ability to balance long‑term vision with pragmatic execution, experimentation, and adaptability in a complex, global, and fast‑changing environment.
This role reports into the SVP, Talent.
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Learning & Skills Strategy
- Set, evolve, and operationalize GXO’s global learning and skills strategy, aligned with business priorities, customer needs, and future‑of‑work trends.
- Partner with HR, Digital, and business teams to shape GXO’s skills‑based learning strategy and embed AI‑enabled skills intelligence into learning pathways, job architecture, talent systems, and workforce planning.
- Translate strategy into scalable, practical solutions that deliver measurable business impact.
- Identify internal and external best practices and scale them across the enterprise to support a One GXO learning ecosystem and culture.
Business Partnership & Regional Collaboration
- Work closely with regional and functional leaders to diagnose capability gaps and co‑create development solutions tailored to operational realities.
- Embed learning into business processes, transformation programs, and operational rhythms.
- Ensure global learning frameworks are implemented consistently while allowing for local relevance, speed, and adaptation.
Culture of Continuous Learning
- Design and deploy enterprise‑wide learning experiences including onboarding, leadership development, and GXO‑critical capability programs.
- Champion a skills‑powered learning culture, inspiring leaders to anticipate capability needs and empowering employees to own their growth.
- Drive innovation in learning design using AI, data, and future‑ready methodologies.
- Ensure all learning content is scalable, relevant, high quality, and aligned with GXO’s strategic priorities, culture, and leadership ambition.
- Foster a global culture of curiosity, experimentation, and continuous learning at all levels of the organization.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Development, Learning & Development, HR, Psychology, or related field; Master’s degree or equivalent senior experience preferred.
- 10+ years of leadership experience in Learning & Development, talent, capability building, or organizational effectiveness within global, operationally intensive environments.
- Demonstrated success architecting and delivering enterprise‑wide learning strategies and skills‑based frameworks.
- Experience building or implementing skills taxonomies, capability models, and skills intelligence platforms.
- Proven ability to partner closely with regional and functional leaders to diagnose needs and design scalable, practical development solutions.
- Hands-on experience overseeing high-quality learning content, digital learning ecosystems, and modern learning modalities.
- Track record leading global learning operating models, including team leadership and vendor / HR technology oversight.
- Deep expertise in leadership development across frontline, manager, and executive populations.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to operate effectively in fast‑paced, high‑growth, matrixed environments.
- Demonstrated experience leveraging AI, data, analytics, and impact measurement to inform strategy and influence senior stakeholders.
Location & Travel
The position will be based in Germany, with regular travel across UKI, Continental Europe, and AMAPAC.
Global travel requirement: approximately 25%.
