The Position: Learning & Development Lead
The Learning and Development Lead is responsible for delivering and driving learning initiatives that enhance capability and performance across Vulcain. This is a hands-on role focused on designing, implementing, and managing training programmes, coordinating external learning solutions, and ensuring continuous improvement through evaluation and feedback. Working closely with managers and stakeholders, the postholder will take ownership of key development projects, ensuring learning aligns with business priorities and supports career growth.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Learning & Development Lead will include:
- Design and deliver engaging learning programmes across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, compliance training, and soft skills development.
- Lead the development and facilitation of leadership and business management programmes for people managers.
- Work closely with line managers to identify training and development needs, collaborating on effective development plans that align with business goals and support individual growth.
- Take ownership of the Vulcain Training Hub (LMS), ensuring content is up to date, resources are well-utilised, and user engagement is actively promoted across the business.
- Coordinate and support the delivery of Vulcain’s Graduate Scheme and early careers initiatives, including check-ins, progress tracking, and alignment with development plans.
- Maintain and evolve Vulcain’s skills and competency matrix, ensuring it reflects current role expectations, supports succession and career planning, and highlights future capability needs.
- Analyse feedback and data to evaluate learning effectiveness and recommend improvements.
- Manage relationships with industry bodies (e.g., ECITB) to secure funding and access accredited training.
- Oversee external training coordination, including bookings, training agreements, learning records and compliance tracking.
- Implement and monitor the annual Training Plan in line with budget and business priorities, as agreed with the Operations Director.

Preferred Profile:

- Experience in designing, delivering, and evaluating training programmes across a range of formats (e.g. face-to-face, e-learning, blended learning)
- Ability to identifying learning needs through TNA (Training Needs Analysis) and aligning solutions to business goals
- Knowledge of learning theories, instructional design, and adult learning principles
- Confident working with stakeholders at all levels to influence and promote a learning culture
- Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and digital learning tools
- CIPD Level 5 (Learning & Development) – completed working towards or willingness to work towards
- Evidence of continuous professional development in the L&D field
