Reporting to the Manager, Learning and Development, the Learning and Development Specialist designs, delivers, and facilitates both in-class and online training programs; ensures course materials, logistics, and learning records are effectively managed; and administers evaluations to improve learning outcomes. The role also supports talent development initiatives, creates multimedia learning assets, manages LMS data, and assists with HR ad hoc projects and events.

Since then, it has expanded rapidly and is now Canada’s largest Asian supermarket chain with 37 stores across the country: 14 in BC, 7 in Alberta, 14 in Ontario, and 2 in Quebec. - Training Design & Development
- Conduct training needs analysis and collaborate with departments to identify learning gaps and development priorities.
- Design, develop, and implement interactive in-class and online training programs aligned with business and departmental needs.
- Update, proofread, and localize training materials to ensure accuracy and engagement.
- Continuously enhance training design using current learning trends and adult learning methodologies.
- Source, assess, and engage external trainers or programs that meet specific departmental training requirements.
- Keep abreast of new or useful training courses (classroom, on-line and webinars) that will be beneficial to the company, make recommendations to related stakeholders.
- Training Delivery & Coordination
- Conduct and facilitate internal instructor-led, such as soft skills and leadership skills, for Support Centre and Store Operations colleagues.
- Act as key liaison for internal and external training matters in Human Resources Department.
- Coordinate in-person or virtual training logistics including scheduling, equipment setup, announcements, and materials preparation.
- Administer post-course evaluations and analyze feedback to measure training effectiveness.
- Act as the key liaison for internal and external training matters; collaborate closely with trainers, speakers, and business units.
- Talent Development Programs
- Collaborate with departments and business units to develop structured learning paths for emerging leaders and high-potential employees.
- Support the design, delivery, and administration of development initiatives such as new manager orientation, management trainee program.
- Develop and revise assessment materials, competency evaluations, and evaluation materials.
- Facilitate talent evaluation workflows including exam preparation, panel coordination, and feedback compilation.
- Learning Technology & Multimedia
- Create and manage multimedia learning assets (videos, graphics, subtitles, voiceovers) to enhance engagement.
- Administer and maintain HRIS and LMS systems, ensuring accurate and up-to-date training records and reports.
- Partner with other departments to clarify training data, update course records, and ensure system integrity.
- Innovate employee learning experiences by integrating digital tools and multimedia for company-wide learning solutions.
- HR Support
- Conduct new hire orientation sessions and clearly communicate company policies and culture.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure proper record keeping of all training and employee data.
- Provide administrative and coordination support to ensure the efficient day-to-day operation of the HR department.
- Provide support for ad hoc projects, events, or departmental initiatives as required.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Learning & Development or Human Resources with hands-on involvement in training and employee development.
- Demonstrated experience applying adult learning principles to develop and deliver effective training programs.
- Strong facilitation, presentation, and instructional design skills, including experience delivering leadership training.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Resourceful and tech-savvy, able to source external training providers and quickly learn new tools and systems.
- Strong sense of urgency, accountability, and follow-through.
- High level of integrity and professionalism, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; ability to speak, read, and understand Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) is preferred.
