Athabasca University's Faculty of Business is currently recruiting for a Senior Manager, Course Development and Production.
This is a full-time 2 year term position.
The Position:
The Senior Manager, Course Development & Production (SMCDP) is responsible for senior-level management and oversight in the coordination of all course development and production activities for Faculty of Business (FB) programs and courses.
- Responsible for leadership and strategic management of course development and production activities.
- Plays a critical role in the cultural and structural (process-related) integration of FB's Course Development & Production unit and the cross-department interfaces between the unit and other cross-functional units and stakeholder departments within FB and AU.
- Oversees the workload responsibilities of department staff and the activities of all parties involved in course development and production and related support activities
- Responsible for translating the Strategic University Plan (SUP), FB strategic plan, and other documents and initiatives (e.g., Assurance of Learning) into operational activities for the department.
- Contributes strategically toward the planning, implementation, exploration, and evaluations of FB's learning environment and AU's learning platform.
- Assists the Dean and FB strategic and operational committees;participates in a variety of meetings with FB and AU departments and project teams ,and holds membership in several FB governance and standing committees, and in other FB and AU committees.

- A master's degree in education, business, or other related area and at least 8 years of related experience, including management or senior supervisory experience, preferably in the educational, publishing, or communications field OR a relevant undergraduate degree in education, business, or other related area and at least 10 years of related senior management or supervisory experience.
- Senior managerial experience, including development and monitoring of costs, external relations with stakeholders, and policy and process development.
- Demonstrated leadership mentorship, and team building skills. Experience in management of staff of various skills and at different levels of responsibility is necessary. Management in a unionized environment is preferred, and management of staff in separate, virtual locations is an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated skill in digital publishing/course development and production processes, and editorial, project management, learning design, design methodologies/concepts, and copyright knowledge.
- Excellent organizational, project management, analytical, systems thinking, and conceptualizing skills. Creativity and innovation skills are preferable and an asset.
- Superior writing and report preparation skills, verbal communication skills, and systems development/process methodology.
- Thorough investigative, research, and problem-solving skills. A broad knowledge of diverse academic subject areas (preferably within business) is preferable and an asset.
- Advanced skill in the use of Microsoft Office and related applications.
