This is a unique opportunity to lead the learning and development strategy for a specialist contractor delivering some of the UK’s most technically complex construction and engineering schemes. As Head of L&D, you’ll shape how capability is built across the organisation – from frontline delivery teams to senior leadership – ensuring learning is practical, embedded, and aligned to performance.
A strategic function with operational impact.
This role will take ownership of the business-wide learning agenda – from compliance and technical upskilling to leadership development, talent pathways and early careers. Working closely with operational leaders, SHEQ, HR and project teams, you’ll ensure that learning interventions are relevant, accessible, and designed to strengthen delivery performance.
You’ll also lead the implementation of digital learning tools, improve governance and tracking, and champion a learning culture across the organisation – one that supports career progression, knowledge sharing, and technical excellence at every level.
We’re looking for Tier One credibility – and the vision to raise the bar.
You’ll have held senior L&D leadership roles within a Tier One main contractor, with a deep understanding of operational pressures, project environments, and the commercial realities of construction. You’ll be highly collaborative, with strong stakeholder engagement skills and a hands-on approach to delivery. A background in shaping learning frameworks, developing technical and behavioural programmes, and building future talent pipelines is essential.
