Under the direction of the Senior Director, HR Effectiveness, and working closely with members of the HR team, the Senior Consultant, HR Effectiveness is a seasoned Human Resources professional with broad-based expertise that is focused on serving our internal customers while improving and strengthening the delivery of HR Services. To this end, the Senior Consultant will conduct best practice research, conduct and interpret HR analytics, provide ongoing advice and guidance to UMMS managers (including HR), and consult with and deliver specialized services to Commonwealth Medicine and UMass Biologics Labs. The Senior Consultant, HR Effectiveness will also participate in performance improvement and strategic initiatives.

Conduct external benchmarking and leading practice research (including review of relevant peer organizations) in order to keep apprised of and inform HR/UMMS leaders of market trends and implement best practice approaches relevant to UMMS. Works with HR Leadership to communicate results and insights to appropriate stakeholders and audiences.
Consult with and deliver appropriate specialized services to Commonwealth Medicine and UMASS Biologics Labs, which may on occasion involve partnering with HRDI staff, or identifying and securing external resources. Services provided may include the full spectrum of HR services, providing the opportunity to leverage the incumbents’ strengths and develop new competencies.
Assists with the development and ongoing improvement of HR metrics and manages the ongoing tracking, analysis and reporting of data metrics related to the HR/Diversity & Inclusion HR scorecard which encompasses all areas of human resources: recruitment and selection, workforce planning, compensation, performance management, succession planning and leadership development, training and work life programs, and diversity. Interprets findings and prepares materials for HR leadership and Senior Management Review.
Provides input into the design and development and leads the implementation of HR improvement initiatives as assigned (such as performance management or succession planning) in order to improve HR service levels. Plans, implements and/or evaluates HR and Diversity initiatives as assigned.
Develops and monitors project plans to ensure that solutions are delivered on time, on point and within budget. Provides periodic progress updates to Senior Director and promptly addresses any unforeseen obstacles.
Builds and strengthens knowledge of UMMS operations on an ongoing basis.
Participates in enterprise-wide performance improvement and strategic initiatives. Leads division-specific projects and initiatives. Larger scale projects may include conducting readiness assessments, evaluation of results and presentation of findings.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, business administration or a related field.
At least 5 years broad-based experience in Human Resources with in-depth expertise in compensation/hr operations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of employees.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
Excellent computer skills and report-writing abilities.
Demonstrates a consultative, fact-based problem-solving approach.
Ability to deliver solutions on time, on point and within budget.
Awareness of HR and Diversity regulatory and statutory compliance obligations.
Strong appreciation for and demonstration of confidentiality.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience preparing or developing HR metrics is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with Peoplesoft strongly preferred.
Masters degree in human resources, business administration or related field preferred.
Experience working in a large, complex organization, most preferably an academic medical center.
Familiarity with quality improvement processes and methods.
Experience managing employees or leading project teams.
