Job Summary

Working within a collaborative team, the Learning Specialist supports instructors in effective and innovative teaching through individual and group consultations, resource development, digital and online support, and the delivery of workshops and programs. The role also ensures the creation of accessible materials that enhance face-to-face, hybrid, online, and field-based learning. Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Teaching and Learning, the Learning Specialist, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) & Sustainability Education) advances a scholarly approach to teaching excellence by designing, implementing, and evaluating professional development initiatives for instructors across the university. The Specialist works closely with faculty, program representatives, instructors, staff, and community partners across all campuses to strengthen the culture, theory, and practice of teaching and learning at UFV.

This position plays a key role in advising on strategies to integrate STEM and sustainability concepts, learning outcomes, and principles into new and existing curricula, and in developing innovative educational materials in collaboration with the Teaching & Learning Centre. Through this work, the Specialist will help elevate the quality of teaching and contribute to UFV’s broader research and educational initiatives.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in STEM and sustainability education required, K-12 and/or higher education, or related field. PhD preferred.
Deep understanding of STEM and sustainability education and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
A minimum of 5 years or equivalent demonstrated post-secondary experience in curriculum development and effective integration of STEM and sustainability into educational programs.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
Proficiency in teaching and learning using a variety of online tools and Learning Management Systems (such as Brightspace, Padlet, etc.).
Knowledge of current trends and best practices in STEM and sustainability education in the context of higher education.
Familiarity with research methodologies and ability to support STEM and sustainability-focused research projects.
Experience in organizing and facilitating workshops or training sessions for adult learners.
Experience with AI technologies in STEM and sustainability education.
