Our department

The HR function has the enviable role of influencing, creating and driving the People Experience (PX) in Eversheds Sutherland. The PX is based upon the five pillars of policies; development; recognition; data and wellness. The Learning and Development Manager is responsible for ensuring that the development pillar is built, supported and grown by producing learning content, modules and programmes that help our people progress their careers and expand their knowledge.

The Role – Learning and Development (L&D) Manager

The L&D Manager reports to the Head of HR and is responsible for producing learning content, modules and programmes that help our people progress their careers and expand their knowledge. This will be achieved through the following areas.

Leadership Development Programmes

As a firm we recognise that responsibilities of leadership can not be assumed but must be acquired through progressive programmes that explore what it means to be a leader within our firm and how our values and competencies our fundamental to this. The L&D Manager is responsible for running these programmes via external providers and ensuring that the content evolves and matches our firm’s strategic goals.

LMS

The L&D Manager is responsible for ensuring that non-technical learning materials are hosted on the LMS and that more content is delivered by this platform. Data is key pillar of the PX within the firm and the LMS will be a tool to ensure that L&D data forms future decision making.

Onboarding

Essential to the firm’s PX is the first day on-site and how we onboard new joiners. The L&D Manager is responsible for creating the overall experience and ensuring that the first day reinforces the decision of the employee to join our firm.

Budget Management

Managing the L&D Budget and how it is allocated to the right programmes and content is a crucial part of the role. The L&D Manager is expected to analyse the spend and ensure that the return on this investment is understood at the beginning of programmes and measured at the end.

Learning Partner

The L&D Manager will be expected to partner with relevant stakeholders to provide training consultation regarding effective delivery options: formal and/or informal learning and provides up-to-date and accurate status information to relevant leadership teams as required. The L&D Manager also assists in creation of communications materials (and intranet communications) regarding learning content and events. In addition, the L&D Manager partners Professional Support Lawyers (PSLs) and other knowledge areas to ensure consistency in the deliver of all learning experiences.

Trainee Learning

Our trainee programme requires the L&D Manager to create content for our trainee population that complements the technical nature of their Law Society learning. This is done primarily when the trainees are on rotation in the firm and is designed to ensure they can excel in their early career tasks.

Qualifications and experience

At least 7 years experience in a L&D role, preferably in a Professional Services firm.
Ability to prioritize work, balance multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail and organization.

· Proven experience in conducting needs assessments to identify knowledge, skills, and performance gaps

· Lived examples of partnering with HR colleagues and business leaders and stakeholders to design and develop comprehensive learning & development programs aligned with strategic goals.

· Has created engaging and effective learning content using a variety of methods, including instructor-led training, eLearning modules, blended learning experiences, and coaching.

· Experience of managing and maintaining a Learning Management System (LMS) to ensure efficient access and delivery of learning resources.
